To me the most dangerous media type are books.

With filmsk, tv and games the violence is visualised for you.

With Books the violence etc has to be imagined by yourself.

With things like this it always makes me wonder why books dont get banned. There are a lot of people who have attributed books to what they have done in their lives. Jim morrison says the doors to perception had a lot to do with forming the doors.

What I`m getting at is that the written word is a far more powerful tool which has a lot more sway than games, tv films and music yet is no longer seen as a threat.

Games are just the latest Scape goat.

What will be interesting is what the next scape goat will be. Cant be the upbring or family background or friends always has to be some form of media

I hope Tony B and John Reid aren't reading this thread!

People who are stupid enough to be influenced by others (such as authors/computer game designers/film makers) to such an extent that they would kill/attack another person generally don't read books (unless they are intelligent but happen to have a mental health issue ... which is another story...)

Had this email from an attorney:

I have asked the authors of articles about jack thompson on gaming sites to start using reply quotes to his threats and statements. And I have asked them to stop referring to him as a renowned attorney and instead disclose that he is the target of a five count forty page Florida Bar complaint which could lead to his disenfranchisement from the practice of law. Many articles and sites like your own give this man false credibility. My quote is that Mr. Thompson has not brought a case to a successful trial conclusion in this century and is all hype and buffoonery without substance. He has never authored an article, published a treatise, researched a document or won a case based on the alleged violence of video games.

i guess this guy likes watching films and not playing video games because he doesnt seem to want gory films banned.

games have age restrictions exactly the same as films, if some teenager does blag that a game influenced them in a murder or a murder was similar to that of a scene in a game, the parents should be prosecuted aswell for allowing them to play it.

maybe they're missing the dripping sarcasm in calling Shock Tampon J a "Renowned Legal Superman" or similar

but generally, it's nice to see lawyers hate the idiot as much as the rest of the mentally stable populace

Have to admit I said 'renowned' in the article, but what I really meant was well known. Renowned really refers to celebrity or gives him some kind of Kudos, but that wasn't what I really meant to portray.

I agree with Norman as I wouldn't didn't want to give this guy unnecessary status when I personally don't think it's deserved.

The irony is we all do give a crap. Read the article if you want - all that's happened is that someone has asked him to join a campaign in the UK. It's because we do care that this is getting forum posts.

If a Jack Thompson didn't exist we would probably create one anyway.

Slightly off topic, but remember the sniper killer in USA a few years back? That got blamed on counter strike... Until it came out that he was a bit of a military trained actual sniper... But that couldn't have had anything to do with it... Media, eh...
