Surface is very nice indeed but 5-7 years seems like a 'long' time to me. We all know that there are other companies working like crazy on this tech. If I had to place bets I'd say a 10-13" iPhone is on it's way soon, maybe even an iMac. Then there's Jeff Han and Co. Multi-Touch surfaces are gonna be everywhere in one way or another.

Do you think it's possible that Microsoft haven't developed smaller versions as of yet? I seem to remember seeing a demo that stated their MultiTouch technology needed fairly bulky hardware that couldn't be slimmed down too easily. I know they made a public statement recently about it appearing in smaller devices but it seemed to be contradictory to their earlier statements.
Is Surface the spin-off of TouchLight?

Do you mean so that Surface could be placed on a wall instead of a table and be used as a truely interactive tourist/navigation kiosk or something?

I imagine MS will spend the next few years trying to reduce the size of Surface to a more acceptable and manageable size. Then if and when it takes off in terms of sales, then MS will then have an impetus to research and develop the product more and make it even smaller.

I think someone mentioned earlier about the angles that people will be looking at Surface from. I thought about this when I first saw the Surface website. I reckon this'll reduce the possible environments Surface can be used in.

However if MS do their work properly and market this well when it comes out it could revolutionise computing as we know it. I could put my iPod onto my Surface PC and swap songs with my computer or put my digital camera on Surface and back up the photos to a portable hard drive.

Just one thing that bothers me, won't all the hardware that we could use with this product need to be specially designed? Seriously do phones nowadays support this or are we going to have to introduce another standard to electrical gadgets purely so we can use them with Surface? Sounds to me like MS have realised this and can see a way to tie people into Surface much as they've done with DOS/Windows/Office in the past.

I cant even begin to imagine how tiring using the computer in minority report would be, your arms'd be knackered after about 20 minutes!
