If he was going to try it on a wii and then try it out on a real person, it's more than likely that he would've done that anyway.

This doesn't explain why versions on other platforms have been banned at all. If it were simply for the Wii version, then only ban the Wii version.

'Some guy' may watch Rambo and then think to try a shooting rampage.

'Some guy' might listen to a 50 Cent album and then go and try to pop a cap in some fools ass, compton styl-e.

    'Some guy' blah blah.

Banz0r all action movies, rap music, etc?

    Of course not.

The BBFC should be there to make sure this adult themed game is played by adults only, not tell them 'sorry, you can't play this game, some Guardian reader has decided its too naughty for your simple brain...'

It's not got anything to do with the wii, the statement I quoted also makes that clear.

No, but they ban movies that depict this level of visceral violence. So why should it be different for video games?

They allow games with the same level of violence as Rambo.

More power to bbfc for banning violent and vicious video game manhunt 2, The kind of sickos who relish playing these depraved apologies for games are exactly the weirdos who are most vulnerable to being influenced by them.
at first after reading this i was mad!! but then i remember who wrote it and the influence she has over me then started laughing over and over!!!!

    ------ is that English?

I can't really understand what they're trying to achieve to be honest, it can't be any worse than Saw or Hostel.

Do they? Things like Saw and Hostel you mean? Neither of them were banned.

And although I've not seen Manhunt 2 in action, I'd be pretty sure both of those movies are far more graphic, seeing as they are not running on the powerhouse that is the Wii. How realistic and sickening can a Wii game be? Not as real and shocking as a movie thats for sure.

Still, if you are the sort of person who prefers to be told what you are allowed to see and can handle, by a man in a suit, rather than being aware of your own limitations, then I'm sure you are fine with this BBFC action.

I think the main reason it was banned in the this country is this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/l...re/3934277.stm

Tom, that was a tragic case, of course, but:

The judge, defence, prosecution AND police all agreed that the game was not to blame for the murder, and it was a drug related robbery. Also the murderer did not own a copy of Manhunt. Finally, the poor kid who was murdered DID own a copy of the game, despite being under 18 years of age.

Put all that together, and frankly, the only people who would still claim it was Manhunts fault are the parents of the murdered child, who (understandably) need something to lash out at, in the same way as parents of solders killed in Iraq start to question the war.

Tragic, but no reason for me to not be able to play Manhunt 2 if that’s what I want to do, as a 26 year old Wii owner.

(I don't own a Wii just yet and I don't want to play Manhunt 2 until it’s confirmed to be any good, but you get the point )

So why aren't you out campaigning to drop all censorship of anything, from violence to child abuse?

I'm not saying its the right or wrong decision, but I guarantee you the BBFC will have been well aware of the above case and its "copycat" style. They probably saw that, looked at the Wii interactivity side of things and thought "no way". If it was coming out on other formats then it may have been deemed more acceptable (when I say other formats, I mean everything but the Wii).

Child abuse? What are you talking about, you mad man?

If you are going to just drop child abuse into a thread about needless video game censorship, you'll need more than a few words. Explain your position and then I will respond.

    Have another go.

'His parents believe the killer, Warren LeBlanc, 17, was inspired by the game.'

'Police said robbery was the motive behind the attack on Stefan in Stokes Wood Park on 26 February 2004 - and not the video game blamed by Stefan's parents.'

But yeah, right or wrong, the BBFC would have been aware of this of course; but then, the BBFC will also be aware that apart from the parents and bandwagon jumper Keith Vaz, everyone else invovled confirmed the game was not to blame.

So, really, if they were in command of all the facts (and I'm sure they were) this alone would not have lead to the ban.
