why wont it? wow has a huge reputatation already and a brand new wow game would shift current players and attract newcomers to the genre too with updated next gen graphics. you and i both know that a large amount of gamers are attracted to eye candy then gameplay. just look at crysis and how much that has sold considering its a poor average game overal.
wow could be inovated in many ways leading up to a sequal so i see nor eason why they cant.
edit: whats AOC?
AOC = Age of Conan - Hyborian Adventures
Its a mmo for the more "mature" gamer - ie 18+ as it features blood/violence/fatalities/nudity etc. I am currently beta testing - so can not say to much due to NDA - suffice to say it rocks!!
Your reasons are completely invalid when it comes to WOW. Everyone knows that you are attracted to fancy graphics over gameplay, WOW has no need for fancy graphics or next gen as you like to call it. A new WOW wouldn't add any more newcomers as much as the new expansion would.
why wouldnt it invite more newcomers to the genra? why are you so againts a true wow2 sequal? there are many ways to imrpove apon wow and if blizard wanted to make a sequal they could and it would make pc gaming more popular. can you imagine the hype it will bring. look at hl1, that was an amazing game and the sequal to it brought more newcomers into the series
I'm not against a WOW2, i'm against the need of replacing a game just for the sake of it. WOW gets loads of content added every year, take today for instance, Patch 2.4 adds lots of new content and loads more quests. The expansion will again add loads of new things to the game.
The time to bring out WOW2 will be when the current games popularity starts to fade, people come and go, then come back again, but its still a very popular game and will continue to be popular.
You can't really use HL as a comparison. completely different game genres. Plus i never played HL1, but caught up with the hype of HL2 and payed for it over steam. All i can say, what a mistake that was, complete waste of money imho. But thats just me.
Do you really believe that, or are you exaggerating to try and make a point?
I've wasted a few thousand hours of my life playing wow, but packed it in around 8 months ago. Still got plenty of friends that play it all the time, and it will stay popular for a good while yet. It's time will come though, when the technology just doesnt cut it anymore (it already looks quite dated) and something else that has good enough gameplay to take away wow's userbase. Although, a number of people I played wow with have said they will stay away from MMO's in the future after the experience of wow, cos it does tend to be a big waste of time.
I think maybe some are missing the point about why a shake up of PC gaming is needed. And there's maybe a touch of bias from the PC diehards. To me, this isn't about whether the PC is technically a good platform for gaming on, it's about it's perception as a gaming platform.
And the main thing I feel it's about, is sales, which the PC market needs. If the PC market had those, it'd have equal section in game shop shelves, rather than a few copies of the top 10 sellers, and a few Sims variants.
But do you think that the average person (not one of us lot) that wants to play a game really cares about that stuff ? Also, just because someone has a console, that doesn't mean they don't have a PC. They probably have one, just not a gaming one. Therefore they'll still be able to edit photos and encode videos, just like a PC gamer can.yes console games are easy but easy is not always better. can i play mods and custom maps on a console game? can i surf the net and encode a video at the same time? can i edit images and videos?
Yup, but there's one major thing that a console does that a PC doesn't. And that's shift consistently high units of it's software. Yes, there are big selling titles on PC, but far fewer of them than on the console formats. Therefore it's quite right that the software houses devote more time to the consoles. Look at Resistance, how many would that have sold on PC ? Not as good a game as many PC shooters, but it sold way more than most PC shooters.there are TONS of things that a pc does that consoles cannot do
Why do hear people saying wow for example is like crack then? why do people struggle to quit playing wow or are these stories all false? im going by what i read and here amongst pc gamers playing wow. i never here those kinds of stories when people play cod4 for example, only wow WHICH is a mmo.
i hear stories of people ignoring life in general just to play wow. true or all crap talk?
the reason why im only SLIGHLY interestd in mmo is to see what this so called fuss is all about with mmo's but i can definetly say that almost EVERY wow thread i read in any forum, at least half the people posting there admit they are an addict in wow
Ermmm....COD4 and WoW have entirely different game mechanics. One is designed to be played for years from the ground up, the other is a more 'pick up and play' game.
True. But at the same time, I know plenty of people who like to escape into a book, watch a film, or have a flick through the tele. Does this mean they "Don't have a life" either?
I'm amazed at how you can judge someone purely based on what game they play.
im not judging people. i am just telling u what most wow people i have come across to have told me. plus i said that SOME not all people playing mmo dont have a life. the way you interperate it is that you think that i mean that MOST if not all people who play mmo have no life
it doesnt matter how the games been made(cod4). if people love it they wil get addicted to it, simple.
But WOW is a completely different game to COD4. WOW has hundreds of forums, Mods and websites dedicated to the game. Its so much more socialable than COD4 will ever be. How many times on COD4 have you teamed up with upto 40 people for a raid lasting many hours? Never, its not that type of game. And thats just one example.
