I like the idea but there may be a few issues:
1: Microsoft
2: Microsoft
3: Microsoft
Have a quick read of this:

This uses alternative cooling so it could come under the same blanket ban.

I've been waiting for for a while.
I just really hate the way the DVD drive gets so bloody hot.
I worry that will warp the discs.
I know that this will definetly void the warranty but I think this will be worth it since the 360 is coming down in price anyway. I think that if you keep it cool, you solve the problem.
I wish this wasn't necessary, and I'm looking forward to hearing if it works.
goodbye RROD - why?
aah right.. they are using green LED's instead?
say hello to GROD.

nice looking case.
Theyve been trying to figure out the addidional drive power problem since it was announced, and i doubt theyll get it.
I bet it'll end up as a "use it or dont use it" kinda thing.
Having just read the article and endured Wide Boy Nick's piece at CeBit the most interesting thing is whether Lian Li still have plans to release the other version that is smaller and has a horizontally mounted dvd drive.
Either way Lian Li have missed the real trick which is having a mounting point for the HD-DVD drive, as well as the normal one. Now that would be a version I'd definitely buy.
Why would Lian-Li incorporate dead technology into their spangly new case?
HD-DVD is dead. Long live Hi-Def Steaming Services!
Ah great... I would have gone for this if I didn't still have warranty on my console
May have a pop at modding one of these cases. If I ever actually come across one.

Err, yes it does. I always lie mine flat.
it gets hot because directly underneath the DVD drive you have the GPU with a tiny heatsink.
And, if I'm not mistaken, The only fan to cool the GPU is located at the rear of the console.
That drags all the hot air across the board, over the crappy soldering and out the back.
The DVD drive and the area underneath the DVD drive gets hot. I can tell by because when I eject the game disc it comes out a lot warmer than I am happy with.
Ah, I see you are quite rightly saying that it's not the DVD drive, just the GPU heating it. But it still gets hot.
The original XBox took a lot of flack for being massive. And this is what happens when You cram everything into such a small case.
