Nvidia cooler or not... I much prefer that the gfx card dumps its heat outside the case.
They look nice anyway. Lets see if they worth the price. Otherwise i'll just get the most basic 4850 i can and overclock it with watercooling.
Bad time for this release, just after the 4850x2 massive price drop.
I don't agree with that to be honest - in fact space is something that's really going against the 9800GTX/GTX260/280 by nVidia. One of the most attractive points about the 4850 and 8800GT is their normal size. That said, two slots isn't as much of a problem as say a longer card.Originally Posted by hexus
Now if they could sort out their prices the non-OC'd model might be worth a look.
Considering how much fuss has been made about the 4000 series coolers, I think this was a great move by XFX.

The XFX cards have been available on ebuyer for a while: currently the stock 4850 is £130 and the XXX 4850 is £150 and at those prices they are not ridiculously over the market average. On the other hand, there are a number of custom-cooled alternatives at lower prices, so the cooling on these will have to be pretty damn special to persuade people to spend the extra...
Or possibly because they didn't have the appropriate contracts in place? Don't forget that it's only a month or so since XFX announced they woul d be selling ATI cards - until then they were exclusively NVidia. Potentially they wanted to get in on the 4-series bandwagon earlier but the legal stuff took too long?
Arrrrrrgh!! Come on hexus where's the review? Granted the xfx cards are going to perform around the same as other card of the same model (ie 4850 vs 4850)
While it's nice to see an overclocked card come out. However thoes pictures seem to be the exact same pictures (not looking the same but the actual same JPEGs) as the non-overclocked xfx 4850
Which can also bee seen on xfx's website
On top of that we all know the 4850's run hot and the stock cooler is really not that good, so you show us a card with a cooler that "looks" like it could be better in theory but at the same time you haven't actually examined it, tested it or reviewed it.
For all we know it could just have a small inefficient aluminium heatsink under that heat shroud and the fan could scream like a banshee. Heck it could be using vacuum tubes under there for all we know.
I'm sorry to say this looks like little more than a press release with some added comments.
Bring us some useful news about these xfx ati cards, please. Some pics of the board under the cooler, the cooler itself without the shroud, some figures relating to sound levels.
So the only red on the red teams cards is the DVI headers?
There's more red on my GTX260
Not to mention the hexus article mentions the red DVI ports as if they would make a difference to a potential purchaser....
Anyone who takes note of the colour of the DVI ports on a potential gfx card purchase has way too little knowledge to be left to make a £100+ decision on their own.........
