Dude . . that thing costs way too much. If I was going up that far price wise, I'd put that little bit extra in and get the 295. Even thats overpriced.

In a way, it's difficult to blame EVGA or any other partner. NVIDIA, apparently, is charging too much for the basic design, and hasn't left enough of a gap between the cheapest GTX 295 - a manifestly better card if you're looking for performance - and pre-overclocked GTX 285s, wich are up to 40 per cent slower at 2,50x1,600.

Re: News - EVGA releases GeForce GTX 285 For The Win

So here's a question - can you add a 4850 to the 4850x2 to run crossfire over three cards? If so, you've got performance that's going to beat this in some games, with change to spare..

EVGA's is the fastest air-cooled one we've come across.
Does that mean you've come across faster ones with esoteric cooling? And if so where are the reviews!?!

If I was listening carefully enough to the Sapphire Adverview that Hexus did (well, the first 45 seconds, which was all I could stomach), then I believe you can, yes...

More importantly, the dual GPU solution doesnt count as crossfire I believe, so you can easily add 2 4850x2's together.

Heavens know why though, I'm waiting for city link to deliver mine today though ^.^

I believe it's because the internal crossfire is driver-based and therefore transparent to the system. Besides which, ATIs CrossfireX supports 4-GPU crossfire anyway. The point of 4850X2 + 4850 is that it would roll in at around £370 - £390 and be a direct price comparison to high end GTX285 and 295s...

I did wonder briefly whether it would be possible to chain 2 4850X2s and a vanilla 4850 together for 5 GPU action, but I suspect the drivers may have something to say about it

Re: News - EVGA releases GeForce GTX 285 For The Win

I hear what you guys are saying about the 4850 X2 being the best value for money and appreciate that - it absolutely makes sense. Whilst I'm generally impartial to nvidia vs ati and normally go purely on value for money, I have to say that I wish nvidia were better value at the moment as their cuda/physx seems ever so slightly more compelling what with Mirror's Edge making use of it to some nice effect. I currently have a 8800GT and as I understand it, if I bought a GTX260 or better, I could use the 8800GT for physx effects via the nvidia drivers, but if I got a 4850 X2 (which I'd prefer to do value-wise) the 8800GT would be rendered useless and may as well be sold . For this reason alone I'd still consider nvidia. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Your right Noli but at the moment people are investigating in to getting Nvidia as PhysX and ATI as graphics so you never know. Also Windows 7 and XP allow you to use 2 different display drivers.

Cheers - here's hoping! I guess I'll continue waiting this one out for a bit, after all, my 8800GT still plays most all games at decent framerates even at 1900x1200...

Nice clocks on this card, the 55nm has really helped the the 285 clock like a good one.
