Re: News - Apple counter-attacks Microsoft ad campaign

Well as far as security is concerned, is it because macs are inherrantly more secure, or is it because there are so few of them about proportionately that there's very little gain in hacking/exploiting them?

Usability. As much as I am a fan of the Mac, Windows is far more user friendly for the masses. OK, that changes if you like to poke around under the hood.

Stablity, I rarely have problems now in Vistax64.

I'm not anti mac, I have one myself, but this is why they've never (imo, re: points 1 & 2) become more mainstream like they undoubtedly should.

Couldn't agree more. Their ads are mildly amusing sometimes, but as the core of an advertising campaign they're filled with falsities and exaggerations. They need to start using the merits of their own products in their adverts, rather than base an entire marketing campaign on attacking their biggest competitor. A jab at each other every now and again can be amusing, but Apple seem to know no other way.

Yeah totally, infact because there is an increase of using macs (perhaps due to their advertising... bit of a paradox/ironic really) there are a lot more malware appearing for OSX. Admittadly if its anything that can seriously damage your Mac then you have to put in your password so you would be more clued up than on a PC (assuming you have UAC off).

Guess it depends what you are used to and what you use it for.

Me neither, only issues have been with drivers but now that we are quite into the vista age that isnt even really an issue anymore. My macbook tends to freeze up and/or stall from time to time too, its hardly bulletproof.

My real issues with their ads is its basically just lying, all these claims about how different they are to PCs is just nonsense. The more OSX becomes the bloated 'easy to use' accesable system it now claims to be, the more issues it will have.

Stop fighting each other and just advertise your product for what it is.

That actually made me lol, why cant Microsoft sue apple for false accusations?. Am i the only person who seems to find it funny how they lable Microsoft as "PC" which is wrong? PC can have linux/mac/windows/others , so can apple just STFU?. It was funny for about the first time now its just boring and shows how bad their product really is, apple are just advertising spammers as you can see with the IPOD all i see on tv is that on every other advert and people seem to believe apple offer best quality on every field which is totally false.

As you can see im anti apple but they are just giving me more reasons to hate them....

Re: News - Apple counter-attacks Microsoft ad campaign

Whether you like them or not, Microsoft has come along way as a company, I have found that their attitude towards their customers and their products has greatly improved over the years.

I for one think that they have really matured into a very respectable company, yes, I won't deny that their products aren't perfect but they are still very solid and they still do EVERYTHING that I want them to, Microsoft have never touted that their products were rock solid but Apple on the other hand, in my experience, has failed time after time to live up to their supposedly high standards of stability and ease of use.

As far as I'm concerned, when you deliberately over-design things, you are typically trying to disguise a major lack of substance.

And to add to what people saying how repetitive Apple are being, whilst Apple are busy going on about the same old faults about Microsoft products Microsoft can just keep their heads down and further improve their stable of products whilst Apple stays exactly where they are now.

Re: News - Apple counter-attacks Microsoft ad campaign

I'm all for using macs (hell, i already own one), but clutching at straws much?

They're picking on the same issues, and honestly, an ad for face recognition - software that is widely reported to only half-work and is something of a gimmick? Perhaps this highlights that PC should really learn to file his many thousands of photos (or perhaps use thumbnail view), who honestly would search one by one? You'd search by date and guessed location surely..

The recent Windows ad campaigns must really be getting to them. There are people who buy for aesthetics, those who buy because it is OS X and they prefer it over Windows, those who have brand loyalty, etc. Regardless of how much Windows hammers the point home, they will never get rid of Apple's core userbase. However, I imagine they're doing a very good job of dissuading a lot of potential Mac users.

I think if they really wanted to pick up on it, they should hit on desktop flexibility - i.e. the virtually unlimited choice you have when building a PC over Mac. Obviously this is a non-starter with laptops, but with desktops it's a serious issue and the "hackintosh" culture has sprung up precisely because Apple don't like people using or selling 3rd party hardware with OS X.

EDIT: Legal Copy - well hey that's an amusing one.. compared to some of the outrageous stuff Apple spout about OS X..? I mean, their legal terms aren't exactly flexy flexy! Oh sure, our operating system is great (and, granted, it is) but what are you doing? Are you trying to install me on non-standard hardware? Nuh-uh.

The Time Travel one really annoys me actually. Are they honestly claiming that Macs are totally bug free? That's grounds for a defamation case!

They just didn't like the fact MS got one over them in their price advert. Reading the Apple Insider rebuttals at it is laughable.

Besides, Mac experts actually TELL you to get a virus scanner for Mac.

Re: News - Apple counter-attacks Microsoft ad campaign

These ads do nothing to encourage me to buy a Mac, if anything they put me off.
If they just concentrated on advertising their product, and not trying to attack Microsoft's, I reckon they'd come across much better. After all, Macs are good pieces of kit. (If a bit over priced)

Lamers. I use Macs all the time, but the only real thing they have over (Microsoft) PCs in my opinion is the native bash terminal goodness. The Apple marketing people need to step out of the 20th century and move into the 21st.
