Re: News - Virgin Media pilots 200MB broadband

In my experience you'll never see max speeds & if you do, it'll be between 2 and 6am. The rest of the time it'll be crawling along at 512k/s owing to 'network issues'.

It's laughable isn't it. They can barely get their 20MB lines sorted let alone 200MB. They just need to give up and fix what they have now.

Re: News - Virgin Media pilots 200MB broadband

I can't see this being rolled out for another 3 or so years if that - maybe more of a publicity stunt to show how advanced their network is compared to the likes of BT?

Very nice in test conditions, wonder how the other people on the same local segment to the 100 test people will be effected...

How many seconds of downloads can they do before the connection will be crippled by a cap?

Yeah I know that but give them time and they will throttle the lines to the state of useless, the lines will be over subscribed and anyone who pays out for the top service will get anything but what they pay for. It's Virgin all over, wish the likes of Telewest/Blueyonder were still running the show at least they didn't hammer their users and cripple their lines all the time.

I am still in arguments with Virgin about the throttling issue as I am throttled 24/7 no matter what time of the day or if I haven't downloaded a single bean. It's even becoming an issue in EVE that when I try to do anything I am getting lag spikes on the 20MB line and it's doing my head in, same on the likes of the xbox 360 as soon as I go online the games lag so much. All I want is one of their guys to come out and test the line as they don't seem to be paying attention to the screen grabs and video's I am making for them. Then there are the log files they reckon can't be right, Virgin are the biggest pile of crap to happen to the cable network.

I have been a happy customer of Telewests since 2000, in the last year alone my service is that of a 2mb line so I am looking to leave them and get Be internet in.

I hate to say it mate but it sounds like your MAC is being cloned by someone. Virmin will no doubt play ignorant though if you suggest it to them

Nah I double checked that and also had checks done pays to have a few friends who work there. If I do most the surfing after 2am the line is fast then 6am hits and the throttle kicks in. So does everyone elses in the few streets surround me and we are all showing the same throttling at the same times. Virgin know of it and I have had out of them they are looking into so new cable that was put in place but nothing since then. So now I make em pay, between 2am - 4am I download like no tomorrow.

Tbh since virgin took over the service took a nose dive even more. I can also get Be 24mb adsl for almost £15 cheaper than the 20MB cable line.

Thats what confuses me... NTL hasnt been taken over, they owned part of virgin mobile or something and decided to use the Virgin brand as its more well known(this is a fact btw, was on their website ).

My service has gone poor from them now, i get throttled from downloading at night aswell now which they dont mention so its ghost throttling which im sure is illegal since no mention in the t&c. I wanted to move to o2 but no bt line and dont want to move to find i have a bad connection there to.

200MB Down / 768Kb up knowing this bunch of monkeys, I would rather have a decent upload, instead of all these speed increases they keep putting in.
