I like this. It will give Linux more exposure. Allows more support which is great for Linux.

But would I use Chrome OS? Nope. Google is gonna be Skynet.

I'm with Saracen on this one. MS are simply a ruthless, determined, commercial organisation, doing what such orgainsations do to protect and maximise their revenue stream. Doesn't mean I like them though.

I do hope that Google aren't planning to bundle a browser with their new OS, or even an OS with their browser, as I've heard that this is considred anticompetitive (or is that only when MS do it).

Basically yes - but for the simple reason that MS have a massive monopoly.

pfft, this is going to be quite bad in many ways, because it might well stop some proper alternative!

things like linux really disapoint me for the same reason. If i rocked up and said hey myself and these 3 guys from uni have been developing this gnarly micro kernel, and want to challenege <insert x here> you will get promptly told that linux will do it.

MS will love this because its going to be even more of a joke than OSX in denting them. This as a 'slim' platform isn't anything like as good a idea as we have seen in terms of integrated on the motherboard offerigns. Those are very slim, quite hard to cause long term damage too, and boot really really quickly.

Who remembers IBM's OS1,2,3,4 ? This failed and it was good. The microsoft marketing power was too much.

If googles OS is to suceed it must play the same games as Windows does. Otherwise its just another Linux OS that is good and functional but at the end of the day its games and game players that will decide on what is the next OS.
