    Indeed

Or as DirectHex has shown you can easily live on a linux based PC and use the likes of Wine and Cedega to play Windows based games and Steam apps

There is always a way around things, just takes more time to setup. I am sticking with Vista for the very reason of games, my hardware doesn't do DX11 and it will be another 2 years before I look at buying a new PC. Windows 7 offered no noticeable performance hike over Vista on my PC so there is no need to waste money on an OS for the sake of it.

(Dx11 will come out for Vista too - no need to upgrade OS for that reason)

True, I had completely forgotten about that

I will move to 7 sometime in the future just don't have a need for it now

The reality is somewhat different though - OpenGL is a bit of a mess (mostly due to politics and infighting) and directx has (pretty) much shown it a pair of clean heals by moving on far more rapidly. John Carmack has even given up on it thesedays - and he was perhaps it's last hope for game development (id's tech 5 engine won't get a linux port). MS certainly promote DX, but nvidia/ATI also throw money at game devs too - and they both seem to favour DX (more so with ATI).

Yeah and using my analogy you could also walk instead of owning a car but it still fails to address the fundamental issue.

I HATE, DETEST and LOATH using a gamepad.....so what use is a console to me for gaming? You are comparing apples to oranges in terms of usability and flexability.

Quite often use the 360 pad on my PC; Burnout Paradise, Prototype, etc. Anything where absolute precision isn't necessary or where I just want to relax and play (and I don't have that title on the 360). Mouse and keyboard for everything else. That's just me using the flexibility my PC offers though
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

If you have a specialist requirement for gaming using only PC controls then fine, but don't blame Microsoft for lack of choice when you're the one putting restrictions on yourself. The Wii doesn't use a gamepad, and is the most sucessful gaming console of it's generation, but presumably you have some other reason for not gaming with that. Ditto the DS.

Bottom line is there's plenty of choice out there besides Windows for gaming, but if you choose to restrict yourself then obviously there's going to be less choice. It's not rocket science.

So you are saying that there are no lines, no wrong, only opinions that are equally valid? I see myself as somewhat liberal, usually willing to take in different views, but that's not a statement I would make. I find certain things rather indefensible, and I hope I don't need to expend on that.

Well, I am not surprised. Most things gets cracked eventually, and there are people who will choose to pirate irrespective of the cost. Not all pirates even bother making excuses any more. Only an increase in the risk of being caught and fined is going to change that. And, not that it justifies piracy, but I guess not everyone managed a cheap pre-order too (I almost didn't, as I had intended to order in September).

Bottom line is there's plenty of choice out there besides Windows for gaming, but if you choose to restrict yourself then obviously there's going to be less choice. It's not rocket science.

And the majority of users need Ultimate for.. what exactly?
Because its the best version out for win 7 Come on, who pirates the Home/basic version of vista or xp? not many. most pirated versions are the ultimate version. doesn't matter what the users need from the ultimate version, the fact that their is such a thing with more features attracts more people period!

no you didn't read what they said properly its not high prices it's PRICES Full STOP!!!!

It wouldn't matter if it was £5 people like my little brother will take pirate copies over paid ones.
I once gave him a full retail copy of windows XP to stop him using a cracked one and he sold it and went back to a cracked version.
