why not get a walkman? they have had drag and drop for ages and sound alot better than ipods and wont explode on you. better battery life to.

There are many alternatives to ipods, what type of ipod are you looking for?.

Off the top of my head heres alternatives to apple:

Shuffle-> Sansa Clip(better audio quality than most, similar to cowon s9)/Cowon iaudio 7/Cowon T2
Ipod Nano-> Sansa fuze/Sony Walkman A720/A820(and the rest) Cowon D2+/ Creative Zen/Cowon u5
Ipod Touch-> Samsung P2(think p3 out), archos? Cant think of many touch screen devices but the samsung wins hands down on audio etc. Cowon A3/Q5U.
Ipod Classic-> Havent looked into this much but maybe the MS Zune? Archos? Cowon S9

edit: The cowon S9 is pretty much the same price as the touch but offers so much better audio quality!.

Definitely holding out for the Zune HD to come out in the UK. It's out in USA in 2 weeks (Sept 15) but there are plans to release it over here. They'll probably release it at the same time as the marketplace, so it might coincide somewhat the the WM6.5 release over here.
