Re: Features - Best Games Of The Last Decade: The Nicest of the Noughties

    Max Payne 2 anyone?

    Including the above:

Call of Duty (the original and the expansion UO)
    Warcraft III
Diablo II ( the first was still better )
    NeverWinter Nights
    Fable
    GTA 4 Vice City
Mount&Blade (great concept, somehow lacking but still good fun)
    Half Life 2
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

At the moment I am giving Arma II a try but it seems i need to upgrade my PC

Re: Features - Best Games Of The Last Decade: The Nicest of the Noughties

I'm surprised World of Warcraft only has the one mention in here so far. Here's my list, in no particular order:

    World of Warcraft
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (much better than Oblivion IMO)
    Grand Theft Auto 3
    COD 4: Modern Warfare
    Portal
    Half Life 2

Also, an honourable mention for Unreal (1998) and Unreal Tournament (1999), great games that I spent many hours playing throughout the last decade.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

Didnt realise the revamped versions were out yet? Have i been sleeping too much? I WANT I WANT I WANT!

Although it wasnt quite within the last decade - Roller coaster tycoon was an epic game - had me hooked for years.

Also enjoyed - in no particular order -

    Fallout 3
    CS:S and TF2
COD4 (and MW2 isn't that bad either, but not quite enough to warrant its own place)
Mass Effect (one of my absolute faves!)
Halo (admit it - it was a great series...to a point...)
    L4D 1 +2
    Gran Turismo series

    Also liked Killzone 1 + 2 and Resistance 2 deserves a mention

probably missed a load off - oh so many games!

Re: Features - Best Games Of The Last Decade: The Nicest of the Noughties

The top ten should be games that shook the industry:

The games I've listed account for series where applicable (i.e. call of duty series). but I've tried to list the most "groundbreaking" of the games, for the time they were released.

World of Warcraft - Single handedly brought MMORPG to the masses
Counter Strike - The original mod made good. Easy to pick up, hard to put down.
Deus Ex - Proved intelligent thought provoking games were possible
Call of Duty - The most intense and dramatic "film-esque" game ever made at the time. Just epic.
Left 4 Dead - Brought co-op back into the mainstream, with buckets of playability.
Half Life 2 - Intelligent, optimised, gegoreous, full physics. A true benchmark title.
Grand Theft Auto 3 - The freeform 3D world was a revolution.
Oblivion - I never played it, but by all accounts the most immersive and detailed RPG of it's time.
Supreme Commander - The RTS game, refreshed, full zoom, endless tactical possibilities. Truly strategic.
Freespace 2 - Frantic arcade space shooter with intelligent story, very grand scale, and fantastic desperate battles. The story makes this game.

Honourable mentions to Desert Combat (BF1942 mod) and Crysis.

Re: Features - Best Games Of The Last Decade: The Nicest of the Noughties

    Neverwinter Nights (Absolutely!)
    CoD MW1+2
    L4D
    Counter Strike: Source
    Zelda Twilight Princess
    Zelda Majora's Mask (terrified me)
    Super Smash Bros Melee/Brawl
    Resident Evil 4

were all highlights over the past ten years. I'm sure I've missed a few great games but those are the ones off the top of my head.

And whoever said Zelda Ocarina of Time, 2 things:
    1) It's ocarina*
    2) It was released on 11th December 1998

I'm very protective about it because it is by far my favourite game of all time
