I was sooo close to hitting buy. Two things that put me off .. first was a review on engadget (comments vs the droid/milestone) and second - it has that stupid HTC raised camera that appears to have the same sharp metal surround as the HD2 .. i'm the proud owner of scratches on my table from the HD2.
Buying it in the UK doesn't really make sense right now..
Phone $529.00
UK Power adapter: $19.99
Shipping: $29.65
Sub-Total: $578.64
UK Customs $101.26 (17.5% VAT)
Total: $679.90 (£426.21 ouch!) still it is a bit cheaper than other sim-free HTC offerings from eXpansys.
The price should come down when sold by UK mobo providers.
Well the Droid/Milestone is £400 and the HD2 is £500, so £426 isn't anything out of the ordinary really.
I would expect it to be £400 at the lowest when it is available retail here. Devicewire.com has a place holder page.
For anyone thinking about importing, the UK charger is a standard mini USB charger. For those of use that have them kicking around the house from previous handsets, that's $20 saved.
It's actually a microUSB connector as opposed to the standard miniUSB found on most devices. This is the new GSM standard for charging and data agreed by the manufacturers.
Still not worth spending $20 + taxes though.
Yes - was very strange when I got the HD2. To be able to charge at home and work, I had to order a spare micro cable (& from random company as couldn't see one on scan????). Very frustrating to have to pay as I've got countless mini-usb cables and no doubt will have loads of micro ones in a few years time
personally i think microUSB will be around for quite a long time now, so it won't be long until all manufacturers are using it.
Should actually stop some camera manufacturers from implementing their own "micro" connector for USB. Panasonic springs to mind.
Also means that Blutooth head sets can also use the same connector for charging, miniUSB is far too big for things like that.
