I've given in too. Just placed an order with Amazon for their out of stock HD5870 Vapor-X for £294. I'm not holding all that much hope that it will be fulfilled mind.
ATI could probably drop the price to under £250 for the HD5870 especially since the RV870 is a much smaller chip than the top end Fermi chip.
That does somewhat depend on what the price of a 5850 is at the time they release the 470

No chance. If they had any quantities at all it would already be launched.
TBH if the rumours about the 470 are true it could be a decent card - again this is relative to the current prices of 5850's.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
The prices of the ATI cards are only so high because ATI currently have sod all competition across pretty much every area. ATI could probably sell them at 1/3 of the price they currently are and still turn a profit. Given their issues and the rumoured sheer size of the thing, most feel that Nvidia won't have that flexibility, certainly not in the 470 and 480 - any price wars that Nvidia get engaged in will be to their own loss.
I think this one is going to be aimed at the Nvidia fans alone.

I'm not too bothered really, I bought a 5870 a few weeks back, but just want to see some competition again.
There is enough of them to keep nvidia going.
maybe it'll be for mac only.I'm looking forward to how this thing performs. If it justifies the price tag then it will be a beast, if it doesn't then nvidia will finally have to take their finger out of their arses. I'm really hoping it's an absolute beast so that I will have more choice come my next upgrade
I mean nvidia can't be that stupid to price something so it must have something going for it to make the 600-odd dollars seem justifyable right?

Until it's released, and we see real pricing then I wouldn't discount it as an option. Right now i'm not in need of a new GPU anyway. If Fermi really does under perform it'll be cheaper in order to sell anyway. ATI or nVidia is good for me - not really bothered who makes my next GPU - more concerned about bang for buck.
