Agreed. Heat/Power is the third factor.
When I moved to the 5870 yesterday my temps dropped 2-3C. My problem now appears to be the 10.2 drivers not being happy.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

If it makes you feel better i've had just as many (if not more if we count the first year of Vista!) problems with nVidia drivers. I see lots of weird posts claiming nvidia drivers are somehow 'better' than ATI's but the reality is they're pretty much the same (excluding side issues like linux/opengl).

The only issue I've had with my nvidia card is that it wouldn't recognise 1440*900 so i had to create it manually - then if any games ran in DX10 mode they wouldn't let me run in 1440*900 - WTF !?

Although to be fair, the 10.2 Catalyst drivers are also doing the same thing but they don't let you create custom resolutions so are -1 in my book.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I have GTX260 and it recognises 1440 x 900 just fine for me... maybe need to install monitor drivers

I don't think it ever came with any TBH - I've moved up too 1080p now and its all good I just thought it was weird that it wasn't supported 'out of the box' also, 1680*1050 isn't either yet 1920*1200 is

Windows will find the drivers for most monitors connected via a DVI cable sometimes has problems with old monitors or via VGA cables.
