My HTPC: Linky
I went to FF, then to Chrome. FF is nice with the add ons, but it's too much of a memory hog. I find Chrome quick and light on the memory. I still have to FF for a few things, and IE for a couple of IE only websites, but Chrome does it for me.
Agreed, the majority of people don't even know what IE is. You'll get the 'Click on Internet Explorer.' 'What's that?' 'What you browse the internet with.' 'Oh, you mean Google/eBay/whatever the home page is'. A lot of people will just ignore the window, which I bet MS has put as a show once only.
You don't need extensions with Opera. Think of it as like an Apple. A closed system that just works really well.
For Firefox, think of it like a PC. It's open and so you can get SO much extensions (from really crappy to really good).
I also see Firefox as better in some multi-language websites - my opinion though.
To echo the other reply really and in addition: I suppose I do, but as I said, it's a personal choice. I've a natural affinity for well written code being a developer I suppose and i've always admired Opera in that respect - it's smaller, lighter and far more complete by default than any other browser IMHO. I'm not quasi-religious about software, and I do spend a great deal of time trying alternatives (which is possibly unusual) to evaluate them (hence my browser journey over the past months) so at least i'm making an informed choice I guess.
If you do decide to pop your Opera cherry then go for the 10.50 beta because it's streets ahead of the competition (bar IE curiously) on Win7 integration and i haven't come across any utter showstoppers bug wise. Most of the extensions you *actually* need are built in (adblocking, noscript, autopaging, internet syncing) either in the browser or via user scripts. Try it in parallel - use this: http://www.gettransmute.com/ to ease the pain. Have fun making your own mind up!
Personally I stick with Firefox, simply because I have Linux, Mac and Windows machines, and being able to use the same browser and keep my bookmarks etc in sync across them I find useful.
I've given Chrome a try too and it is much faster than firefox, but not quite as stable yet, and lacks some features/extensions i like in firefox.
I have't used IE for ages, only time I use it is when a new system is installed and then i go download firefox.
This browser ballot will alleviate that need a bit at least!
..and Opera Link http://www.opera.com/link/start/
All built in
I used to use xmarks on FF which does some of what OperaLink does (Just in case FF users haven't come across that). It's out for Chrome too.
