Has any dev ever not said they've got the most advanced AI ever? to be honest I find them all much the same, far too stupid on most occasions & then far too clever elsewhere (ie their seeming xray vision!)
Rather liked the first one (just missed out buying it on a recent sale!)
Pffft Chessmaster 3000 had the best AI, modern games are flawed in the lack of defined rules for AI and for poor implementation.
Saying something has the best AI is almost as bad as saying "Unless you cheat you WILL die.... a lot" as best means most people will not be able to beat it
Try playing a skirmish on Perfect Dark against a DarkSim, that is good AI. AI cheats, it has to in order to appear intelligent/ignorant, it's near impossible for AI to function in a realistic manner without that
have they programmed in the following:
you are running through the level, blowing everything up, quadruple tapping the dead just to make sure, generally making lots of things go boom and bleed alot. will the last remaining enemies run and hide or cower in the corner crying, because theres no hope left and theye just seen all their mates killed.
and will they dive out the way or run off, if you drive cars and tanks at them?
will the enemies exploit the physics to try and kill you? like piling a load of explosive barrels next to a car at such an angle that they use the car as an impromptu mortar round, with added boxes and watermelons for a frag effect.
until they programm in stuff like that, then the AI is rubbish
Maybe they've just hired all the kids who spend their lives working for spammers starting up forum accounts to instead spend all their time playing the game
Don't get me wrong I'm really looking forward to this game & am trying to buy Crysis + Warhead (sell it to me someone, check the wanted forum!)
It's just the old AI was a bit poo (not aimed at Crysis alone, I mean AI in pretty much all games) they either swarmed on you & had the usual patented "Super-duper AI x-ray vision & instant sniper-vsion" ™ abilities or they wandered around aimlessly and let you shoot them in the back.
I didn't feel the suit (well, cloak mode) was the reason you could beat them so easily, it was the fact they were just bog-standard AI.
I want AI that flanks, blind fires, uses grenades to 'smoke' you out (and I don't just mean grenade spam you to death), doesn't know where you are at all times but will act normally if you are hiding behind a wall "ooh he could come from the left/right or pop up, I better cover all bases or get backup" rather than "I am going to the left, ooh I'm dead"
If there's any developer I'm going to take such a claim seriously from it's crytek, though I'm still sceptical.
Wonder if they'll pass the patented chuck doorway test; "hey my squad is in a bloody pile at that chokepoint, should I run there too?"
Can't remember how many AI swarms I've beaten in various games by just sitting with a line of sight to a door and my sights at head height.
Individual AI has been pretty good for a while, it's teamwork and co-ordination where it always falls down. If the first bot through a door dies, the next thing through should probably be green and have HE or FRAG stencilled on it somewhere. Never happens.
If they get it, responsive, adaptive and smart, then it'll be that first sunrise on the island all over again for me.
I've been waiting for this for a while now, should be pretty good! i thought the orginal story was not that bad tbh
most advanced AI? doubt it. all the levels looked like a corridor type shooter. its pretty easy to nail the AI in a corridor shooter but try and create a sandbox game and try and place an AI anywhere on the map to see just how good the ai really is.
i just got a new gpu so im all ready to trying this game
I'm interested in how it'll run. Got my new gfx card too so will buy on PC, it's only £25! I forgot how much cheaper PC gaming was!
