Yes. Which will lead to Sony being taken to a class action lawsuit by the 3rd party peripheral manufacturers when the shops start sending products back en mass. Although no doubt they have already factored this into their decision. But this just again reminds me why Sony sucks so much.

I would have though that this line from the EULA would protect sony though:

To me that states that if your hardware is not authorised by sony, then it may not work with the system. If you expand that quote, its in relation to software updates.

So in laymans terms: Your 3rd party unauthorised equipment may or may not work, and its at your own risk.

If any of the 3rd party companies had contacted sony and got authorisation for their product then they should not be affected, and if they are they would be entitled to bring a case against Sony imo, but otherwise it's at the own risk and they would have no chance of winning (nor should they).

I hate all the proprietary stuff that is happening in the electronics market. I thought we stamp that out a long time ago with standards and stuff and now it is back with a vengence.

I was going to buy a console but have decided not to. I really don't like the idea of a manufacturer having control over what I do with my hardware. I think we'll buy licenses soon, and not own the hardware at all. DRM on the nuts and bolts, not just the media. No thanks. Now that Intel is selling processor upgrades it won't be long before any hardware modification will be illegal. It's all about making money with as little effort as possible.
... I use now a big vent for the whole machine now, but I cant use it forever, it is my grandma's ventilator...
