CEO of a company with over 300bn of market cap takes leave for health reasons, reported on our business site...
Sarah and Scott would be doing a ****ty job if they didn't report it.

Deja vu or what?
Steve itself is speaking!

I had a bit of a sniffle this morning, but that's because I went swimming at 7.30 and the stuff they treat the water with always gives me that for an hour or so after.
I expect shares in me will rise however, on account of my increased overall fitness.
More seriously, though, on top of Apple's size is the fact that Steve Jobs is such a recognised public figure at the front of the company, and so when it steps back, it does have some sort of impact in the place that hurts - PR. So it's both relevant info, and published on the right part of HEXUS
Personally, I would be more inclined to buy Apple products if Steve Jobs took a back seat.

I'm not a huge fan of Steve Jobs but I do wish him a full and speedy recovery.

'an apple a day keeps the doctor away'
doesnt seemn to be working very well. maybe all these macbook airs are too light and cant batter the doctors hard enough. He should try a nice bulky PC case, with all its square edges and sharp corners, that will soon see those doctors off.

It's a good job you're not cynical, GoNzO!
Well honestly.... Steve Jobs is not as much a problem if he leaves/dies as im sure the apple fan boys, they all fear the chance of old apple returning, box shifting pc manufacturers who used to work for dell etc running the company.
Honestly i believe they wont do that again they will bring in a similar inspirational person, (which is why some notes are taken by people other then Jobs to give possible future faces of apple)
But really other then being the CEO taking medical leave wont really effect the company. Get well soon hopes go out too.
Thing is steve jobs like him or not, and lets not kid ourselfs he makes buffet look like a saint, he appears to be directly responsible for the sucsess of apple, both in the 80s and the 00s.
However, to me it looks like history repeats itself, lets not put a cooling fan in the Lisa, the Lisa is a lump of turd that is incredibly un-reliable.
Lets put an antenna on the outside of the phone where people like to hold it, lets lock people down very heavily, restrict what they can and can't do.
To me those seemed to be the downfall of Apple, for a peroid of time in the 80s they were quite a way ahead of the IBM 100% compatable, but they just lost their way completely, OS 9 made windows 95 appear secure and reliable, OSX has very few 'on paper' advantages for a business. As the march is been made to a more and more restricted computing system more people will be unable to do what they want with it.
The way they are structured right now its the iPod/iPhone which are the real cash cows, the iPad, mac etc don't really do much for the balance sheet in comparison. That is not that diverse and as quickly as walkman vanashed, so could that in the hands of the wrong steward.
Personally I think apple is horrifically overvalued, why on earth buy into a company with a 40bn warchest, unless you are treating them as a hedge fund. Porsche demonstrated how you can make a very good investment house in house, maybe its time for apple to do this?
