Re: News - Microdirect said to have gone bust

I returned something once, to the Upper Brook St store, and had no problems once i chased them on the phone, but then again, this was 1998

Ive used them a few times since, usually because no one else Id heard of sold the item I wanted, or had it in stock.

Re: News - Microdirect said to have gone bust

    From the article:

"We managed to get through to Mohammed Shafiq - general manager at Microdirect - and he confirmed that the company was experiencing cashflow difficulties. He stressed that he's an employee himself, and thus couldn't offer definitive guidance on what this means for the future of the company."

What a liar. Mohammed Shafiq is one of the directors of Micro Direct along with Javid Iqbal.

More news about this in The Register today: http://www.channelregister.co.uk/201...ding_up_order/

I can't see Micro Direct surviving this.

Re: News - Microdirect said to have gone bust

I used to work there so still know some of the staff and apparently they were all told today (14th June) that the company is folding/has folded. The website is still live but I've no idea if its still taking orders or not!

Re: News - Microdirect said to have gone bust

    Hiya...

Like BillyBalls here I too used to work for the company... This might sound cruel but to be perfectly honest, I don't care if they go into receivership, it's about time their cocky directors got what they deserve.

I have had some horrible encounters with their returns team... Ever since, I refuse to deal with them, no matter how competitive they try to be. Getting hassled as a customer for returning faulty goods well inside the warranty period just ain't worth it. Especially when there are a number of other traders who can match their prices without a trade account and offer better customer service!!

Been buying from them for more than 15 years. Was in the store just yesterday, told me they are just down sizing the shop due to a fall in sales.

Re: News - Microdirect said to have gone bust

I had returned a faulty motherboard to them last month. I finally got an email from them telling me they are a new company ( STILL TRADING UNDER MICRODIRECT ) and that they could not help me.

This is what happens when there is no liability on the directors. They can just shut up shop and go on as before without the debts.

I would not go near them and would advise others to do the same.

If they can do it once they can do it again.

Re: News - Microdirect said to have gone bust

One of the reasons I used to pick Microdirect over anyone else is they have several pricing levels. One for general customer, one for small business (no minumum order), educational (no minimum order) etc...
Their one for small buiness meant they were cheaper than the rest. This, however, changed around 2005 and the price difference became like £1 vs their general price, and a google shopping search would always reveal a better price. I also note that Microdirect rarely feature on a google shopping search.

15 years!! And it's never crossed your mind to google for cheaper sources?? Seriously, for everything they sell I/we can find a better alternative and at the same time gain better customer service, lets not forget more cost effective shipping.

I wonder have those guys at Microdirect come to any conclusions as they why they have a major fall in sales in recent months, I bet they're blaming the recession and not the fact their customer service is lousy!! their prices ain't competitive enough compared to the competition.

If they're a new company under new management, shouldn't they update the records at Company House? Personally, knowing what I know now, I would advise everyone to keep away from them.. and if the new owners have a brain, they'd change the company name too!! Because with their reputation, it's not going to be doing them any favours!
