Re: News - Counter Strike back with Global Offensive

Sounds interesting..I wonder if this will bring with it an updated version of the oh so epic failure of CS:Condition Zero hehe.

In all seriousness though I am not really certain what they can do without messing with the game too much - new engine/models/maps is all I can really think of - perhaps some more official remakes of classic maps? New engine would be nice but then they have already upgraded CSS a fair few times.

Hopefully not "free2play" with items/microtransactions..that's probably what this update will bring, judging by the perceived success of this model with TF2 (success here is definitely subjective..I am not a fan personally).

    Anyway we'll see

I've always liked playing Counter Strike, and it will be interesting to see just what they bring to this version.

One thing they would definately need to bring to it would be better hostage AI!!

Re: News - Counter Strike back with Global Offensive

The only bonus might be if it becomes more accessible, I think I've played it about twice and never for more than about 3min due to the following or a combination of happening:

    - people on the server don't recognise your name, kick+ban
    - Kill one or two people in an amusing or unexpected way "NOOB!" - kick
    - Manage to kill someone who believes themself to be the best at the game - "hax!" - kick ban
    - Hopelessly out matched and dying lots - kick

I never once found a game that wasn't populated by elitest clicky morons so I gave up. I'd give my copy away on steam if you could do that. Actually I think they only reason I have CS install is as resources for GMOD.

If the new one has a better match making system perhaps I'll get into it this time around but I won't be parting with £20 - 30 for the privilege.

Re: News - Counter Strike back with Global Offensive

CSS is legendary, im still playing it regularly now and Zadock i think you must have been unlucky as i havent really found many servers to be kicked from etc, only when me and my mates do a "mix" i.e a team game (5v5 on someones server, if we dominate we get kicked ), normal public matches are good though i play mostly on de_dust2 map though and on servers like noobfrag.

The last big update from css was bad, i adjusted but tbh they should have left it the way it was... i have a feeling they are going to screw this up so much and either be like TF2 or cod... hope im wrong.

PS: WHY is it going to consoles.... i think valve have forgotten that controllers are useless for competitive counterstrike

pay £80 for a console or £400+ for a pc. No really i cant see what they are missing...

joking aside i find it as a sad fact to, and it comes as a heavy cost to us as all the modern games are designed to be console then uselessly ported to pc. Crysis 2 is one of the best examples of this. BF3 whilst still in development is already showing signs on this.

Add HAWX2 to that list as well.
The latest cricket game from EA wasn't released for PC's at all.

What are the chances this will be free to play? From reading around it seems it will have matchmaking and online rankings/statistics (Sounds a bit like Quake Live but I'm sure there are others too) and with TF2 recently switching to F2P it seems Valve aren't afraid of using this model. The only downside I can see to this is I can't see where they'd fit microtransactions in apart from player skins, possibly spraytags. Still, one can hope

There will be a lot of people willing to pay so I'm sure it would be a while before it went F2P, TF2 took 4 years.

I hope they manage to maintain CS' simplicity, I find it easier to pick up and put down than MW2 and battlefield.

Re: News - Counter Strike back with Global Offensive

I like CS:S, but I don't play online because, frankly, I'd get ripped to shreds.

The AI model is playable, but could do with a bit of refinement. Currently, you kill an AI member, and if another is in the vicinity, they pop around a corner and blaps you in the head before you've even had a chance to see them, like they're homed onto you. Oh, and they like to throw grenades at the backs of teammates heads, leading to multiple team-kills when said grenade explodes half their own team. Other than that, and the AI predictability in certain scenarios, I find it quite playable offline. I hope the AI model is retained and slightly refined.

As brasco said above, it's the simplicity factor in CS which gives it its charm. It's clean, maps are generally equal for terrorists and counter-terrorists, and you can load it up and put it down within minutes. It's still an all-round classic.

I really hope this turns out to be a good game. I'm a huge fan of source and have hopes for a revitalization in the franchise
