Not sure how to take this step from MS.

As a gamer, touch screens, I mean what are you thinking!? As a programmer, take away my comfy keyboard and you get no apps. I don't even use a console or console controller for pc, they feel unnatural in my hands.

Now I know the keyboard and mouse are not going anywhere in a hurry, there is a reason they have been around as long as they have. Someone I know was so proud to show me their ipad and preceded to tell me how amazing it was. I was not to impressed, for doing minor things like, um.. sitting in front of the telly and doing what ever on it? I still prefer using a laptop if I was to sit on a sofa, the reason the keyboard.

As to removing xna, and removing support for desktop applications from the free version does not make sense. At this moment in time it does not effect me as I have Ultimate from MSDNAA. For people kicking about doing stuff at home before going to uni, or post education, this is a step backwards I feel. There is a shortage of skilled programmers, thus the Raspberry Pi, but what happens when people decide they want to move on and create something bigger?

I'm not looking forward to Win8 from what I have heard so far, though I am sure I could sort of adapt if I really had to. I think I may be holding onto my Win7 for some time yet.

The worst thing,is that since many of us are PC gamers,eventually we probably will be getting Windows 8 in some form!!

Couldn't we do what we did with Vista (pauses to spit) and ignore it until the next version comes out? I did XP->Win7 and it looks like I'll be doing Win7->Win9.

I was fortunate and managed to skip Vista completely. Only place I had to deal with it was briefly on my mother's laptop.

I'm sure they'll not force everyone to instantly change over to 8. I hope.

Well they can't force people to buy upgrades, but given their blatant use of coercion wrt Metro, I can see them using every dirty trick in the book to force as much Windows 8 down people's throats as they can.

Try working on 500+ page documents with only a touchpad and you'll reconsider that position rather sharpish. I'd argue the same for web developers/coders/dba/etc. Keyboard & Mouse for home/work use is here to stay, unless the PC has just become a glorified xBox?


On another note, you should have the infraction winging its way to you presently. Insulting other members (whether in a failed attempt at humour or not) has never been acceptable.

Or to put it another way, if you are working on a desktop pc with a mouse and keyboard, you are an old f##t who should go forth and find another OS because W8 is not for old timers like you.

I might be wrong, but I read it not as cjs150 trying to insult people, but stating that Microsoft was being pretty inconsiderate in its approach. Don't think it merits an infraction myself, and I'm one who will happily say I hate all things touch screen.

Plenty of us don't think of disabled people or those physical or mental disabilities as being a sub-class of humanity,to be only mentioned why trying to hurl immature childish insults at people.

It also indicates what a naive person you are,when you think so little of such people, as you don't see to have much contact with "the real and normal" world where disabled people also have a right to exist in.

I doubt you even have met a person with Aspergers syndrome or one with a physical or mental disability,let alone had to help such people. You are clueless.

Moreover,when there are disabled people such as Stephen Hawking who have done more to forward our understanding of our world than many able bodied people and Harry S. Truman who lead the US through the second world war,and even I have known people in science with physical disabilities,what have you done for the world??

On top of this Hexus has members with disabilities too,so perhaps if you are "normal" you should also realise this too,and how you would make them feel.

Truman picked up the reigns when Roosevelt snuffed it in April 1945 - hardly leading the US through the war. Side issue granted, and not the thrust of your post, but his main contribution was authorising the use of nuclear weapons on Japan. Not the best example to choose maybe??
