I am seeing reports that the UK launch will not include some of the features currently available in the USA since Google have failed to complete on licence agreements for purchase of films and music although rented films will be OK. Does this take the edge off the launch?

Yes, I'll be getting one. My phone is an iPhone 4, which is now out of contract and therefore quite cheap on a lower priced contract. It's much cheaper to get this than a new phone, and with tethering gives me the best of both worlds.

I browse the web/Twitter/Facebook loads on my phone and it'll just be nicer on a 7" screen than a 3.5" one. I'll also use it for storing PDFs which I use regularly, as well as trying it for books. Storage isn't an issue - I watch films on a 106" projector screen so can't imagine being happy watching a film on any tablet. I listen to most of my music through spotify.

I use my main PC for all office type stuff, gaming, and anything that most people would call 'productivity', but the tablet at £199 has the advantage of being able to sit on the couch and use it one handed, while looking after the baby for example. It will boot up much faster than a laptop, and is much cheaper. For what I want it for, it seems perfect.

If anyone's interested the All About Android podcast has some (detailed?) coverage of the Nexus7 - check out the video podcast available at http://twit.tv/show/all-about-android/66. They've got the "developer" units from Google IO with the white back - and I've got to say that it looks pretty neat. Got me thinking that if there was an all-white one then that would look very smart indeed.

Damn, even though I don't need one, I'm now very tempted, and one of the kids has been pestering for a Kindle Fire (when it launches here) but to my mind the Nexus7 is a better device on a lot of levels.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

No MicroSD then no sale. I like to take a couple of 16Gb SD cards on hoilday loaded with books/magazines/movies, so this is a deal breaker!

And no I can't afford Wi-Fi in the hotels to access the cloud, much less the storage itself which I don't trust.
