About time tbh, we have a game and gamestation within 50 feet of each other
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?
Personally I've always preferred the look and feel of Gamestation over Game. The Game branding in my opinion is really poor and I've rarely found proper gamers in Game, or at least ones that could actually communicate this to you. The local Game in Cheltenham seems more interested in hiring hipsters than gamers...

NOTHING TO BE SEE HERE, MOVE ALONG PLEASE....
:: of all the things i've lost i miss my mind the most ::
The real shame is that Gamestation and Game USED to be different before the takeover. Gamestation used to have a section for retro stuff, usually in the window or a cabinet at the back where you could find old SNES games, Mega Drive Games, N64's and even the occasional rarity like a Vectrex.
That's what used to set Gamestation apart but they axed that pretty quickly - I guess because it never made much money, but I don't think I've been inside either store since then. I used to always go in just to look at the retro stuff and I guess I couldn't have been the only one.
Ditto.
I'd hesitate to say that it's only proper Gamers in gamestation, but staff are usually much friendlier and it just has more of the vibe of the old indy stores.
Game on the other hand is possibly the most soulless store to appear on the high street. Just a bland colour scheme, shelf after shelf of boxes and the staff just look miserable (making them dress up probably doesn't add to their fun).
Erm, they didn't say they'd be closing (more) stores - instead what you'll now have is a GAME and a(nother) GAME within 50 feet of each other!
My local GS still does that - had some tempting prices on XBox's the other day (XBMC anyone). Actually I really like the vibe at the local GS - although my (now closed dammit!) GAME was anything but "corporate". And if GAME are looking for a USP then I'd say (for the GS's anyway, GAME's tend to be a mixed bag - difficult to tell them from HMV's etc) the "keen gamer" angle is maybe worthwhile. If they're still in business when the next-gen XBox launches then it's very likely that they'll get my business - especially if they're still doing trade-ins!
Just hope the bozo's remember to transfer my Gamestation points to my GAME account!
PC World for gaming...
Like you say - not somewhere I want to go. Although my local makes it a lot easier because they've given up a lot of the console space for a new Apple "experience" area. In which case the Currys (a short walk away) has a better selection.
Funny how a store can give of such a dull vibe.
By the time I got to the back of the Game store were they kept the 3 PC games they had, I just wanted to turn around and come straight back out, Which I probably did 9 times out of 10, Much to the annoyance of the wife who would ask every time why I bother.
For some reason Gamestation had a much friendlier vibe about it.
Meh, Gamestation was just Game anyway really, I'm not bothered.
Can we rebrand HMV as GAME as well ?
I say sack them both and bring back gameplay.com, most of the time the stores didnt stock games i was after and the staff is normally incompetent. Recent attempt at gettin a copy of guildwars 2 was a waste of a day out with different pricing in different stores none of which match the online pricing... thats why i miss gameplay good selection and worthwhile staff.
