It would be easy for ASUS to deny there are any new Nexus devices in the works if Google plans on ditching the Nexus brand altogether and will market new tablets under a new name. Nexus 7 gets its name from the fact it has a 7" screen, but how do you call a new 7" device then if the fist one ends with a number that doesn't denote its version? Nexus 7.2, Nexus 7 2013,... neah, those just sound ridiculous, so they might call a new device something completely different, probably suggesting its new features, e.g. LTE.
I doubt they will change the Nexus branding. Its not as well known as Galaxy or Desire perhaps but it still has a decent reputation in the market place and i would hazard a guess they are planning to build on it rather than want to try and build a new one from scratch.
Nexus 7S? Or will Apple sue?
The New Nexus 7.
No more confusing that The New iPad year after year.
How about Nexus 7 Lite and Nexus 7 Pro? Or perhaps, like everyone else, tack on an "HD" to the name somewhere.
Nexus 7 Cheap?
LOL I think it's Chinese with the number 4 as it sounds like death IIRC... how about they call it "HEXUS 7" and give all of us readers here (and the stuff!) a freebie to play with? It's only one letter off... think of all the free publicity they'd be getting on this site LOL!
Well the Nexus 5 is around the corner, I reckon Google will keep with the brand/name and if they do release a new Nexus 7" model, I reckon they will name the device based on memory size, ie Nexus 7 32, or Nexus 7 16, they kinda have to either reduce the price of the 7 to compete with the Kindle Fire HD or release a new higher spec device.
Seriously doubt there would be one at a $99 price point, supposedly the Nexus 7's BOM is around $160. Unless they go the amazon way of having it completely locked down and full of adverts...
If the BOM was $160 when it was being designed and first manufactured, what will the BOM be right now? Probably less.
If they plan on selling twice as many (for arguments sake) lower prices tablets than the original Nexus 7, they could push the BOM lower with larger contract purchases and negotiations. Perhaps also a lower spec in some areas, might make sense if they are also going to release a higher spec direct replacement for the original.
Who knows what will happen until it actually happens
$99 probably equals £99 but is still a brilliant price and they should sell amazingly.
