The 4G iPod Touch (which doesn't seem discontinued in favour of the 5G) is £169 for 16GB. The 5G may start at £249, but it also comes with 32GB.

It's nice to see some competition finally.Don't get me wrong, Apple is a great brand but overpriced and has been slacking off in recent years. We want more innovation for less pounds!!!

Don't worry it seems some of the tech media has already started to dampen their own pants:

I think it will sell. If it indeed is £200. People will fork out the extra just because 'its Apple'.

Re: News - iPad mini pricing leaks; get the 8GB model for £200

If it really is £200/£199 then this will sell like crazy - hell for that price I will be very very tempted, especially given Microsoft's recent announcement of their crazy high prices for surface.

Take away the Apple hatred for just a moment - 8GB is MORE than enough for many basic users. If you are not storing lots of films, music or pictures on a tablet (and many many many users don't), then this isn't really a problem..still enough space for a whole heap of apps etc, and if you really really need the extra space you'll be able to add it via 3rd party add ons (similar to the galaxy tabs...).

The thing is - I don't think we'll see it for £199..that would just be too sensible. I expect more like £249 and at that price my argument above starts to crumble..the nexus 7 may have Android ( + or - depending on your POV) and may have build quality issues, but it's pricing is just too competitive and it is still a great little device for the money. As yet there are no big brand tablets to compete..this would be the first one.

We'll find out next week for sure - will be an interesting market around christmas time though if they really do hit the £199 mark!

8gb may be more than enough but 32gig Nexus 7's are filtering through at £199 now and I'm thinking this will be £229 or £249 in which case it's vastly overpriced.

I'd like to see it sub £200, but apple will be well aware it will eat into the massive profit margin they have on ipads, so more likely to be £249 or even£279

Re: News - iPad mini pricing leaks; get the 8GB model for £200

I wouldn't discount the possibility that they will release a 8GB version at £199 just encourage impulse purchase / get new customers in. Then discontinue it starting with the 2nd generation with a 16GB while making price adjustment depending on how successful the first generation sells. E.g. they could slash the price of the 16GB to £299 forcing upgraders to shell out £50 more in the future, grab a large chunk of extra profits (an extra 8GB a lot less £50), but still give the impression that it's good value since the 16GB 1G was at £349. Having the iPad mini start at £299 eventually does provide more consistency with current iPod Touch line up. Heck, they may even phase out the 16GB, again, to keep it consistent with the iPod Touch. But I can believe that they are willing to start with a "cheaper" model just to protect their market share. For a single generation anyway.

Re: News - iPad mini pricing leaks; get the 8GB model for £200

So, even if it is £200, it's 8GB iPad mini or 32GB Nexus 7?

Excuse me while I go find a Nexus stockist.

Personally, I'm not interested in a 8GB fixed memory tablet at any price. It's not what I want. I wouldn't even buy 16GB iPad 3 I was offered at a very aggressive price ( bit under that £200), because for me, 32GB is a minimum. And yes, I know I could have sold it on at a profit, but first, that abuses the good nature of the person offering it to me, and second, I can't be bothered to faff about doing it.

No doubt, at £200, it'll sell well, but for me, there's no interest at all in 8GB.

And apparently only available in 16GB+ sizes.

So probably a worse display than all the other 7" tablets, at least on paper it is, whilst been too large to fit in a suit pocket, and £100 more expensive.

Will probably sell like hot cakes. *sigh*.

Re: News - iPad mini pricing leaks; get the 8GB model for £200

Too expensive and simply not good enough to be honest - why wouldn't you just go and buy an iPad 2 for that money? Or heck even a second hand iPad 3 will be only marginally more! Still a 4:3 display too..and being 8" will be just too big to put in a large pocket (my playbook for example just fits!)

I'm all for praising Apple when they release good products, and I usually defend the high prices on quality grounds - but recently I have just been unimpressed and unable to even start to construct a defence. The iPhone 5 was a bit of a washout (and totally failed on the quality front), iPads are rolling out with minor spec bumps each time (and a price bump to match!), the "Macbooks" are just going up and up and up in price..a far cry from the relative bargains of a few years ago (they were £650 with student discount..now £900 with the same discount!).

So..back to saving for a Surface Mk II?

It really is a shame the iPad has a strangle old on the music creation app market. There isn't anything on Android that comes close to what is available on the iPad. My wife really wants an iPad, but only because that is her only choice to get the apps she needs/wants to create music with.
