    No.

There are reasons why people buy Apple products; for accessibility. Simplicity/ease of use.
Some of us prefer a more open-source OS, without converting to Linux. Windows 7/Windows XP = Best OS's offered.

I personally see Windows 8 being Microsoft's response to OSX. If I wanted that, I would have bought an Apple.

Trying to replace my motherboard. And why not go Windows 8, it's the same as Win7 once it's tweaked and ModernUI is removed. (Yes, i did test it

    Will I "upgrade"?

It depends on quite what you mean by "upgrade".

Will I put an upgrade version over the top of an existing OS? No. I'll wait for as retail version that installs cleanly, from cold.

So will I "upgrade" at some point using a clean, retail version? It depends on what it costs, and what benefits I get from it, and right now, I'm just not seeing the justification. My current OS is doing all I need it to do, so I doubt I'll "fix" what currently ain't "broke".

nope, to be honest windows 8 looks terrible and... in lack of better terms, it looks like a novice made it, I'll be sticking with windows 7 it is far better than all the trials i've seen of windows 8

I did it and kinda wish i didn't bother. All I am now trying to do is bring back what I liked about 7. e.g. Will likely buy Start8 to get the start button back. I am also expecting premium themes that will have Aero transparencies and rounded edges.

There are no plans to produce that product.

There are two choices in 8, and presumably later versions too:

    • OEM, tied to a single system, blah blah blah (you know the drill on this topic)
    • Retail upgrade, which can install on any system which already has a Windows partition (you can reformat during the install, but there must be an existing retail or OEM Windows on the system for the installer to work)

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Windows 8?

The RP is working quite well on an inherited laptop I have. It does not have drivers for the Intel Integrated graphics, but I can live without it. Also only has 1.25 gigs of memory not the 2 gigs minimum: it still works fine.

Tried the upgrade advisor which only came up with a few warnings about programs I would lose in the migration (I have read I would need to re-install XP anyway?) and let me proceed to purchase. For £25 it seems ok, the purchase failed as it would not recognize my postcode as I was buying from the UK store but from a location in Brazil..... cannot use the Brazil address as it must match the CC address. The Brazil store said it was not on sale.....

Overall MS have made the upgrade process too restrictive and unclear. You can burn a disk from the download but if you do a clean install you can get activation error messages. Was prepared to perform the downgrade to XP but they would not even take my money. A bit of a mess! No surprise they are drifting down the IT company rankings.

    Nah.

Going to switch to Ubuntu full time once Steam get the games sorted. Bye bye Microsoft software forever I hope...

this is like vista all over again. give it 18 months and just maybe microsoft will have switched onto the fact that you make products that the customer wants.

No. I try this few weeks but Win7- 64b work just fine. Let see what Win9 brings. This is just for tablets and windows phones.

PS - at the moment, if you didn't have an old copy of windows to hand, it is significantly cheaper to buy a copy of WinXP from amazon AND the upgrade to Win8Pro from MS than it is to buy an OEM/systembuilder version of Win8. Seems more than a little retarded.
Lack of clarity on my part. I would buy an OEM version which is currently available from Aria priced £71.99 for Windows 8 or £105.59 for Windows 8 pro which is competitive price wise with current Windows 7 OEM's. I still like having the physical disc should i choose to do a re-install or have a hard drive failure.
My preffered dual boot option would be 7 on one SSD and 8 on another.
The upgrade once out of the offer period is allegedly going to be close to £150 (according to Tesco small print on upgrade advert) which if true is only likely to convince people not to upgrade.
Microsoft really need to look at the OS pricing as an Apple OS upgrade is less and the second hand value of Apple machines is way more than a pc which to the average consumer is increasingly relevant.

Its inevitable... history shows we'll all be using it in 12-18 months. (Steadfast objectors aside).

    Resistance is futile? ;-)
From my own observations family and friends around me who use pc's are still on either (mainly) XP or perhaps Vista. For most casual pc users the "if it aint broke dont fix it" rule applies and their current pc's adequately cater for their current needs.
If anything drives adoption of Windows 8 its likely to be the RT version on tablets which will then infuriate users when it does not perfrom as a full blown desktop OS does.

Nope, there's less painful things that I'd rather do... like have my last impacted wisdom tooth extracted sans anesthetic, we really shouldn't have to use third party hacks to get a useable interface.

The UI may be nice to use with touchscreen but via mouse I find it incredibly clunky and ultimately extremely frustrating to use and seeing as I'm disinclined to replace my £450 IPS monitor with a touch interface anytime soon that'd be another nope.
