I should be ok with this one, just need to finish crysis 2 first!

Hmm, I'm running a slightly underclocked 5870 1gb so might have to keep the settings modest. Rest of my system should be ok though. (Phenom II x6 1090t @ 3.8ghz, 8gb pc1600 ram)
Could do with a newer cooler gpu anyway, it's underclocked as under load it gets rather toasty inside my sound proofed case where obviously sound is reduced in exchange for some warmth lol
I just scrape past the bottom of the barrel here. Luckily my E4300 1.8GHz is overclocked to 3GHz. That and my GTX460 768MB should be able to make a playable game out of this. Low to medium gfx at 1680x1050.
Though with my new 22"er 1080p gaming is in my grasp, though not Crysis 3 I fear.
@mid of recommended and high performance
got an i7-2600k OC @4.5GHz, 8Gb memory @1600Mhz and HD7850 OC @1050Mhz/1450Mhz memory clock
I'm using a PowerColor HD 7850 PCS+ Running with 2GB of memory at about 1000Mhz Core Clock (http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphi...or-pcs-hd7850/)
The biggest differences I have seen between the two is that the 7970 has an extra 1GB of Memory, not much faster clock wise than my 7850, and costs $200 more. It is also way longer which won't fit in my case anyway.
To my understanding, preformance will really show on the 7970 when you are running more than 1 monitor, which I am not. Although, if you know more I do like to learn things.
BTW, Thanks gunslinger36 for backing me up!
There's more to graphics cards than clock speed and memory size. For example, the 7970 has a wider memory bus and twice the shaders.
Yeah the 7970 is way above the 7850, in some games you will see performance almost double and around 60% extra is probably typical.
The 7850 is just below the 7870, which is just below the 7950 and then that is just below the 7970. We may even see a 7890 sneak in there too.
The fact that there is a $200 difference speaks volumes, people who pay the extra for the 7970 are certainly not chumps.
You would definitely notice the difference when playing games.
should a phenom ii x4 955 and gtx 660ti play this in a ultra setting ?
Based on the specs listed, I'd say it's unlikely.
Lowering resolution doesn't always help massively on a lot of games. Despite this common ego thing people seem to have about needing max settings, they're not necessary to run the game well and you'll often find the last notch or two on the graphics settings kills performance but doesn't make a huge difference to visuals. Either take some time to experiment with individual settings yourself or look for an optimisation guide, like I linked in #29.
I remember Crysis/2 looking amazingly good. Now it just looks the same. Exactly what is amazing about this, it seems like the same stuff is being done.
Thanks for the info - but shushh - I'm looking for an excuse for a Christmas purchase at Scan!
Speaking of which, I'm actually in two minds - GTX670 or HD7970? I've been a NVidia fan up to now, but I'm getting the strong impression from the comments here that maybe AMD is worth looking at these days (it's an AMD board I've got). I'll have to check the benchmarks and reviews...
7970, although Crysis 2 at least still seems to be an Nvidia "win".
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
Crysis 3 doesn't use physx so at you won't loose out with AMD for it but yes it's likely to be better optimised on nvidia.
Swings and roundabouts as they say - but you could always go mental and have two 670s..
You'd have to be mad though
It all really depends upon price.
A 7970 will be slightly faster, but also slightly more expensive.
