Probably not. For scratch resistance, you want something that's hard. For shatter resistance, you want something that's strong (well, pretty much unless you wan to start bringing maths into things). The two are pretty much mutually exclusive in isotropic bulk materials, so you couldn't just cast a hard slab of shatter-resistant scratch-resistant plastic.
You could use an anisotropic plastic (or composite) that's hard on the surface and flexible beneath. But then you start running into manufacturing issues (as far as I know, nobody manufactures anisotropic bulk plastics), and optical issues. And plastic isn't exactly great in the optics department to start with.

No - just decent trousers! I've only ever had issues with my Note 1's 5.3" screen and that was some cheap old jeans I had. Wouldn't want much bigger but anything less than 5.7" would be fine for me I reckon especially with the reducing bevel sizes. Once you have a large screen using something small is always a disappointment. My wife has an S2 and I really find it small after the note.

Actually I have had no problems "carting around" my S3 - in it's leather flip case it fit's just nicely in my shirt pocket. And to date I've only got one shirt where I can't do that - and even there it's just the case that stops it fitting.
Oh and the S3 has a 4.8" screen.

My impression too, for me at least the S3 is in that heaven blessed sweet spot - it's not large enough to be Note2 unwieldy, while still being large enough that video's, web, etc are a pleasant experience.
My favourite S IV mock-up from the www
If that does turn out to be the SIV then here's one current Samsung owner who definitely won't be "upgrading" - that slab looks effin' hideous. Plus it looks too much like an iPhone5 for Samsung's lawyers to be entirely comfortable I'd suggest.

It also looks a bit like the current Sony Xperia's - and from the brief try I had of those, they're not exactly comfortable in the hand.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

My s3 seems quite ridiculously small after a few hours on my shiny new Nexus 10. I'll be waiting for the Note 3 assuming it has improved s4 specs.

I has to be unscratchable. Apple have patented the scratchable mobile computing device....

I think it looks rather tasty. Almost afraid to say that I'm currently walking around with a Moto Razr, but then I like big thin slab-phones

    That's a mockup of an iphone6

Kinda looks like the same artist? Seems people aren't happy until we are carrying paper thin phones? I hate a phone that is too thin, it slips out of your hand so much easier and the device just seems more vulnerable than a thicker one would be. I like a bit of substance to my phone.

Mobile phones will become incredibly thin that they will simply snap in your trouser pocket

Re: News - Samsung Galaxy S IV coming with unbreakable screen in April?

if they fancy making it that thin then I politely request they rebuild it adding in 11mm and putting in a 50000mAh battery!

Seriously the only thing current smartphones are missing I think we would all be happy with a few mm increase, motorola has the best idea and im surprised no one else is doing it I would love to be able to use the smartphone all the time!.

And yeah this is probably a fake, do samsung have a 1080p panel at that level? I thought we would have heard something if they did, its unlikely they would use sharps tech in their phones . I have a funny feeling it will be similar to what the new nexus 10 and chrome books are with similar specs minus the phone stuff and panels.

I wish samsung success so I will say this... dont increase your phone size! I was happy with 4.3" and now have a n4 on the way and I am pretty sure that will be my physical limit, <5" is the perfect number I think any more and well you have a note which I personally cant safely or comfortably use with only one hand!.

I'm happy with my 3.7" HTC Desire S, I guess I could go up to 4" but for me that is the maximum size. It's also 11.6mm thick and anything thinner just seems weird and fake.

The next phone I get will definitely not be a skinny little thing like in the pic, no spank you.

One last thing, a 13MP camera? I mean reallly comeon nobody cares what number Mega-pixels the camera has just make a good camera and sensor. More Megapixels does not mean better quality. Silly Billies.

Perhaps the best thing about the S3 (for me anyway), is that given the battery is removable, you can quite easily change it to a fat battery that nears 50000mAh. As long as you don't mind not having an official battery (mine hasn't exploded) and back cover anyway.

Can you effortlessly touch the upper opposite corner (e.g top left when holding on right hand) and the home button with your thumb without moving moving the phone on your hand? Not that I would be surprised if you can, but for me, it's just impossible. It's not a case of "I can comfortably manage it if we I really stretch and lose some grip on the phone", it's just not feasible. In fact, if I hold the phone with a proper solid grip my thumb won't even reach the top opposing corner. Meaning that it's almost strictly a two handed phone for me.

Last I checked, the megapixel war hasn't ended even on P&S and DSLR cameras
Fortunately, it hasn't -just- been a race for more megapixels, and compared to good camera phones from a couple years back, things have moved on gradually.
