It's not a case of "I can comfortably manage it if we I really stretch and lose some grip on the phone", it's just not feasible. In fact, if I hold the phone with a proper solid grip my thumb won't even reach the top opposing corner. Meaning that it's almost strictly a two handed phone for me.
It's a two handed phone for me too - but I'm find with that because I far prefer to operate a phone that way - my thumb isn't dexterous enough to text etc with - so even an iPhone4S would probably be a two handed device for me*. No my issue with the Note was that it was just slightly too big for my average pocket and the extra size made it feel a little bit of a stretch to hold. Like I said though, personal preference and I'm sure if I'd got larger hands then the Note2 would have been on my shopping list. That being the case then if the SIV is a 5" device then that's another strike against it in my book.
(* Learning electric guitar at the moment and I really wish I had bigger hands - mine struggle to span the strings to play some of the chords).

And of course in the fullness of time we're supposed to see that replacement inductive charging back for the S3. Although given it's an official Samsung accessory I shudder to think at what crazy price point it'll launch.
