Re: Features - QOTW: PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 - which was best?

The Playstation 3 has some great exclusives and PS plus allowed 20 free games to be played at your will. I hope the PS4 will be what it says it will be, because it's extremely hyped for such a console. Now PS4's online service will be paid for, despite being cheaper, but not always necessary to play online on all games. They do say PS4 free-2-play games won't need PS plus, otherwise paying to play on a free-2-play game defeats the purpose of free-2-play.

Xbox 360 has been great to use, though my first one became a riddle of problems e.g. drive getting stuck, unable to read a clean disc etc. I do like the Live service, but i do feel they're nicking some of PS Plus' features like the free games. It does have a better online service than the PS3 and gets some content earlier than the PS3. Right now, I'm hoping that Microsoft hasn't lied to us about removing DRM and online requirements, otherwise it's PS4 only.

I had a Wii, but it isn't great. Too much of a gimmick, though I do use Wii Fit a lot to keep in shape, possible the only good thing about it IMO.

Re: Features - QOTW: PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 - which was best?

The Wii was my first console, and I applaud Nintendo for introducing the Wiimote. I prefer the PC controls for most games over console ones, but the Wii introduced alternate controls which made playing games in new ways possible. The Xbox 360 took this another step forward with the Kinect, and my kids have been having lots of fun with Double Fine's Kinect Party (and I admit to enjoying some of it myself). I haven't tried the PS3, but far as I know it didn't really up the Wiimote by much, so I'll call the 360 the winner of this generation.

That said, the game I had most fun with on the consoles was Mario Kart Wii, which I used to play with my wife before we had kids, and in that respect the Wii won.

I would say XBox 360 is the best or won this generation, though it's hard to say who came second with the PS3 with built in Blu Ray and having a strong finish in sales and the Wii having great initial sales with innovative design at the time.

Re: Features - QOTW: PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 - which was best?

Xbox was the best all rounder due to its very ergonomic controller & best exclusive titles. The design and architecture of the comsole was also more simple and closer to a PC. Multiplatform titles always performed better on it as devs porting their games to the PS3 was not as straight forward and game performance did suffer slightly. The 360 was also slightly cheaper, a good thing for those not concerned about blu-ray.
We are years overdue with for these new consoles and in my opinion it has effected the quality of games we are getting showing little improvement in the last few years and has really been a choke chain round developers necks stopping them from pushing boundaries at a technical level.

IMO the ps3. Although I find the wii fun it's better for party games and younger children. Didn't like the fact that you have to pay to play online with the xbox 360.

QOTW: PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 - which was best?
Oooo, good question! All three have got plus points, PS3 is the best from a tech spec point of view, the Wii did/still-does that "family gaming" thing best, with the XBox getting kudos from me for XBL and Kinect.

There's two XBoxes and one Wii in the house, but if I had nothing and was to buy a console now? Probably the PS3, but I really, really hate those controllers ... the XBox one is a country mile more comfortable for me.

Of the "next gen" consoles though it's more clear cut. Sony have (imho) played a straight bat with the PS4, whereas Microsoft seem to have their "screw up" boots on. Wii U? Forget it ... it's just a reheated version of the Wii to me.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Re: Features - QOTW: PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 - which was best?

The Uncharted series is steering me towards the PS3, and the overall performance of the console seemed snappier than that of the XBOX360.

The 360 had a certain charm though, the controller was great, and there were loads of pre owned titles you could pick up for next to nothing.

PS3 for me though, due to the media options, larger hard disk space (on the original model) and FREE ONLINE service. I couldn't commit to XBOX Live Gold, due to my online gaming style. And Gold needed for Netflix? Pah

The lack of backward compatibility kills the next gen for me. That's the reason the console I'm most likely to buy is the Wii U, though I don't think it's worth the price currently.

Though i have no interest in gaming, with three competing manufacturers it can only be a good thing for consumers. If even one of the three gave up it would be bad from the 'pushing technology forward' point. If there was one dominant or even worse, only one console manufacturer that would not be good for anyone aside from that manufacturer.

Let me put it this way. Would I miss our wii - no. Would I swap my 360 for a Ps3 - yes. In that regard I put the PS3 ahead. (In case your wondering why i'd swap - free online play and free iplayer/netflix usage plus free games through PS+ should I choose to pay each month).

Re: Features - QOTW: PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 - which was best?

I had an xbox and a ps3. Xbox won, hands down for me. Yes you had to pay 4.99 a month or whatever for gold membership, but I preferred the online interface to ps3 online interface (think the ps store) tremendously. The friend system was better too. Also loved the indie game section even if it was not good from a dev point of view. The xbox controllers are for me also far superior to the ps3 ones, the main point being the thumbsticks. Did use the ps3 for blu-rays though, which is a definite bonus for that.
