I couldn't resist taking a peek at Apple's share price.. it has fallen over 5% since opening today alone and over roughly 6% since opening yesterday. Investors are getting cold feet about Apple it seems.
do not understand all the budget bashing, i do not see it as a budget phone with the specs of the thing, there budget phone if you wanted one would now be the 4s 8gb surely...
They may end up with a different kind of fragmentation if they're not careful. If they're pushing developers to make 64bit apps then they will only work with the 5s and not other ios7 compatible devices and yes have no performance benefit over a 32bit compiled app.
They will need two versions of ios7 as well one for the 5s and one for the other 5/5c and possibly a third for the 4s due to it's different aspect ratio.
Yeah all seems a bit meh this one, again similar to the S4 launch. Somebody needs to make something really different to stand out these days...
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
That seems to me to be the problem .... everyone is struggling to come up with the killer differentiating factors or features that drive the "must upgrade to latest model" motivation. In other words, it's now a pretty mature product area, with some credible competition.
And if so, manufacturer revenue streams are going to be hit as people wait longer, maybe skip a release or two, before upgrading. And if that happens, the next step will be to lower the target price and go for the untapped market segment, I.e. those that want premium models, but can't currently afford (or won't pay) the price.
How are these 'Budget' phones budget?
A budget Android device is £100
A budget Blackberry is £120
A budget Iphone is £469 ????????
Out of interest.. I am looking at the current flagship phones of all manufactures. They are all pretty similar now with slight variations between them... size of screen/os/camera ect...
So far a continuation of moore's law and nothing screams out to me MUST HAVE,
In recent years i went from sony ericsson w995. I only changed as it snapped in half. Then to a iphone 3gs.. to a htc one.. the jump from the w995 to iphone was great. The htc one from iphone the experience not so much, the hardware obviously improved but not my overall experience. both are great phones.
Where is the next big must have coming from?
The cheaper model should have been £429.

So basically they don't want to hurt 5s sales which is what would have happened if this had come in around 350 mark. That is now taken up by 4S.
The market is due a correction. The hardware has matured to such an extent that they are becoming much like household white goods as they run out of customers to flog their wares to.

Like what ffs - only things I can see are iOS and the Apple logo on the back.
Totally agree - funnily enough someone was remarking the other day that they didn't see anywhere near the level of hysteria/interest in the Galaxy S4 launch compared to the S3 one. Although he did point out - and this is a good point imho - that if the "2014" model is quite similar to the "2012" one then there's almost no reason to upgrade. So the timidity of the manufacturers can be argued as being of benefit to us poor consumers - no reason to splash out on another expensive handset at the end of the (usual) 2 year contract.
Next feature bump is going to come when 4G actually stops being a networks wet dream and actually becomes usable. That, or if Nokia keep going, these much improved camera electronics. As you say, they're all becoming a bit samey - used to be that you could say that Blackberrys would be best for texters; iPhone for app fans and ease-of-use junkies; and Android for those who like to tinker. But these days that's not true - competition has bought them (more or less) up to parity.
IF I decide to change phones (from my current S3) next year then I'm basically looking for something with decent battery, decent performance, a camera that works a whole lot better than the S3's does indoors, a uSD slot and not running iOS (because I don't get on with it very well). New Sony looks good, but I'll be interested to see what the Nokia/Microsoft deal produces at MWC2014.
