That actually rivals the nexus 7 (2013) version very well and is cheaper. The only advantage the nexus 7 has is a higher ppi display and guaranteed future updates (Android L) and even then someone could port Android L and put it on this. That's the good thing with android devices.
I think it may just be due to costs - SDHC cards top out at 32Gb, whereas you need an SDXC compatible card and reader to go to a higher capacity:

Tesco's venture in the electronics market seems a bit surreal.
i Bought one this morning for our oldest girls birthday tomorrow
Hudl plus case and screen protectors for less than a 7" Samsung Tab 4... and that was before the £30 from the double club card voucher offer. Works for me!
I'm tempted to get one for myself, I could really do with a tablet and 8" is about perfect for me I think. The galaxy Tab S would be amazing, but it's twice the price of the Hudl. Twice as good? I doubt it.
Looks interesting, though I'll stick with my 10.1" Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 for now (also atom based, though dual core I think).
There are methods of getting Linux onto devices in place of Android, but whether they'd work on this depends on what Tesco have done with the bootloader and other things (if its locked etc).
Well having played around with the Hudl2, I think I would like one. Our girl is really pleased with it and I think she likes it more than an equivalent Samsung. 12 year old girls can be like that.
I think 8" really is the right size for this too. would be perfect for doing the online parts of my OU degree while working through the books. Would work for studying in bed too
Got one yesterday for grandparents - it's brilliant. Really quick and very well priced!

Tesco have done very well here I think. Great choice for parts. Had they have gone Snapdragon route it'd most likely be the 400 in it which is no good these days.
