I feel the exact same way about just getting a normal PPL. The costs may be lower than for a helicopter, but it's still a large amount for something I don't see myself using too much.

And flying a RC helicopter is easy; you can even cut the grass with it!

So firstly I must point out that getting a license need not be *that* expensive. If you read an study hard before hand, you can save a lot, you don't want to be burning 8us gal per hour to learn stuff you could learn from a book.

My basic PPL cost $6K That's six thousand United States Dollars. You could probably do a PPL-H conversion from that with about another $6k, without that much bother.

However, actually then having both the time, and the money to use that... That's the hard bit.
