Interestingly I got the 290x over the 970, for 2 reasons.

1, its not ok to lie about specs and then sellotape 0.5gb of useless ram on to put a higher number on the box.

2, at 1080p the 970 has a slight advantage but as a 1440p, 1080p 3D gamer (and hopefully oculus/vive gamer soon) the 290x does come out that little bit better as the resolutions climb.

I do hope the Fury X does take the top spot, I can't afford a Fury X or 980ti but Amd giving nvidia a slap down would be good to see and hopefully address the strange market share imbalance we currently have.

S/A has some PowerColor pictures of a "Future GPU" which Charlie believes is a Fiji.

Yeh that was a horrible lie about that Vram. Not cool.

I dunno if it'll have a massive affect on the market share if these Fury gpu's are better than anything Nvidia has, though. Unless they really are miles better. Amd have come out with the fastest single gpu's in the past, but I'm not sure it's been by enough to have a massive effect.

Btw, I bought my 290X over an Nvidia card because F... Nvidia

Re: XFX Radeon R9 390X official pictures prematurely posted

I do feel I should support AMD if possible, ie in a marginal case I will take the AMD card like I just have.

It does seem odd how nvidia have such dominance, there may have generally held the top spot performance wise for a good while but anybody with half a brain can surely see AMD have been best at many price points more of the time tot he point my last 4 cards have been ATI/AMD.

It does seem there is a lot of fanboyism (not so much on these forums) and it seems many want AMD to fail and disappear, if that did happen I may have to go back to console gaming as one player who is clearly already driven by greed would not end well for consumers.

Nvidia is not just anti-competative, they're anti consumer imo. Not just to Amd users, but also their own. I've had Nvidia cards before (last one was the Gtx670), but the more I learned about the business practices of Nvidia and Intel, the more I favoured Amd. I know you weren't accusing me, but just to explain anyway, it's not fanboyism for me, it's just a case of wanting to support the more decent company, which I see as being Amd.

I think Amd have generally done as well, if not better at times than Nvidia when it comes to gpu's. I imagine the larger market share for Nvidia is partly down to pre-built computers. I can't imagine they're selling all those extra from single, discrete gpu sales. I dunno, I may be wrong!

What Amd have really needed for a long time now, is an awesome line of cpu's to compete with the i7's, or at least the best i5's. Or maybe I should say, that's what I've been dying to see from them Could happen with "Zen". Hopefully so..

They did not tape 0.5GB of useless RAM on to lie. The design of the card was such that the RAM needed to be there. There only other solution to the issue was to pretty much half peak RAM bandwidth, something that would have hurt performance a lot more.

I've been saying it for a while but to address their problems AMD need to work closer with game developers. It seems they just do not want to commit the resources to it and until they do, games will generally play better on nVidia hardware because of the optimisations in place.

But hey, don't let misinformation and conspiracy theories get in the way of a good "stick it to the man"
