How about a 480p HTML5 Youtube video eating up ~60% CPU on an Pentium G860? You can forget about 720p or 1080p completely. Pegs the CPU and you get maybe 10-15fps.
Meanwhile with flash? 1080p, <15% CPU load.
*I* hate on Flash because it's a security disaster. Titanic and the Poseidon Adventure have nothing on it in terms of how much of a disaster it is. It's gotten to the point where the zero-day's are coming out 2 weeks in advance. If you can't use HTML5, use some sort of YouTube specific program. But the (total lack of) safety factor should really outweigh any perceived advantage.

I do actually still use flash on Youtube myself, simply because HTML5 currently doesn't seem to allow for progressive buffering, it just downloads the entire video. I'm on data capped broadband, the last thing I want is to open a video to check out what it is, get bored after 5/10 mins and find out that in that time youtube has downloaded the entire say video, especially in the case of lengthy podcasts.

Thats about all I can complain about with HTML5 since my PC is now capable of handling it.

Uninstalled Flash & Java months ago. Got sick to death of both, and to be honest good riddance to what has become extremely bad software.

True, but never let facts get in the way of a good rant.

Pardon my curiosity, but what's the spec of that PC? I just did 720p on my Core2Duo (T7400) laptop and it worked fine - and based on a quick G-search that's a lower spec than the G860. Granted that was with Chromium running on Ubuntu, rather than IE on Windows.

Speaking of IE, still find it lags on HTML5 compared to Chrome or Firefox.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Bambooz, is the GT630 DDR 3 or 5? Have you tried turning on hardware acceleration in the browser?

Tell her to install YoutubeCenter, ideally the userscript dev version if she doesn't mind installing Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey.

Once installed a new settings cog will be at top right of the front page, click that, go into player, set player type to aggressive flash. Even works in Chrome. If you want you can set default resolution, disable autoplay etc in this plugin too.

Re: Mozilla Firefox browser starts to block Flash by default

Oh the old flash, I hate you, HTML is much better choice and would like to see its fruition sooner than anything, I cant browse the web as I should in my mobile and tablet PC because of the lack of adobe flash. Hate the adobe...

Flash was a good idea for a time when html did not support media content properly. These days standards have improved through html5 and hopefully provide a less vulnerable experience.

Agreed, unfortunately unless we see backwards compatibility (which seems unlikely) I think it's going to be a while before we see flash vanish completely. There's still a fair amount of legacy browser based applications and websites using flash. Some of those will be actively developed to support html5, and some will have entirely new competitors that do use html5 instead of flash, but I think were going to see some use cases where flash is required for a while to come yet where development is abandoned etc.
