Vulkan is supposedly finished, going through legal processes, drivers are written, big games houses were asking for it and contributed to it.

Nvidia have already said Vulkan will ship as a part of OpenGL, which includes their Windows XP drivers.

If Vulkan is everywhere, I can't see why anyone would develop a DX12 game.

Time will tell. Potentially should be quite a lot for some types of games if the developers go down the close to the metal route (or console port).

But I actually wonder if this arguement should be more about the fact that there is no alternative but windows 10 ?
YMMV, but for the kinds of games I'm interested in there's been a lot more alternatives than usual - divinity original sin is one of my top recent games, and is out on windows, unix, mac, steamOS, ps4 and xb1. Pillars of eternity likewise etc.

I'm looking forward to this game, Just for the special effects and seeing what Full DX12 is like. It'll be a great way to see whats going to come in the coming Months. Both Polaris & Pascal GPU should be out in the next few months, So anyone wanting to Upgrade their GPU I would advise to hold on until at least May.

That's assuming they're implementing all the bells and whistles of DX12 or just making it DX12 in an attempt to push people onto Windows 10.

And the games in the review pool at the time of release don't need more than 3.5GB of ram for high res, so it had no performance impact. If the designers of a game in the future make the textures for a scene take up 5GB then any future reviews will show a big performance deficit, as will be seen on any cards with less than 5GB of VRAM

Would be interesting to know how much Microsoft paid them to restrict their potential market size so much.

I'm sure MS can afford it, and it is probably money well spent from their point of view.

As the window for one year free "upgrade" draws to a close, people will re-evaluate whether they want Win 10. Possibly more along the lines of whether you want to be outside it watching support for your existing platform crumble as people move to the new one. It happened with Windows 3.1 users migrating to 95, Windows 95 users migrating to XP, with XP users migrating to 7. It will probably take at least another year, but there will come a point when Win10 becomes the mainstream and most sensible platform to be on for Windows.

Personally I have moved from having Windows as primarily a gaming platform to pretty much only a gaming platform and spend more of my time in Linux. That gives me very little info to leak to MS, so I am ready for the switchover from 7 to 10. Still not sure when would be optimum, but given I am now only talking about whether a few games work there isn't even much early adopter pain left for me.

I expect so see lots of little nudges towards Win 10 in the next few months. I was bound to switch anyway, they will all fall on deaf ears for me.

Almost all AMD cards, and many nVidia cards - 900 series are.

Agree, but it makes it hard to compare if there is no DX11 render path!
