Or *shock horror* you travel a lot, and find 4G/Wifi streaming isn't available on trains/planes/boats/rural country roads.
Anyhow, my phone currently carries 32GB internal storage and a 128GB MicroSD card, recently upgraded when my last 64GB card (which was nearly full) decided to die.
Under normal circumstances I keep about 350GB in my phone (just in case I go to hospital unexpected), but I have a total of about 3/4TB in micro SD cards I can use with my phone.
My old S3 has 32GB onboard memory which is nowhere near enough for me. And unfortunately, none of the hospitals have wifi and downloading via 3g/4g would be far to expensive for the amounts I need, so I need lots of extra storage.
I have 2x 128GB and 3x 64GB (all between 30 to 45MB/s) micro SD cards normally used with my phone plus another 2x 128GB and 1x 64GB high speed (95MB/s) I use (with full sized SD adapters) for my camera if I need more. I get my friends or relatives to reload them while I am in hospital. I have even found I can fit the extra micro SD cards in the phone behind the rear case (can easily keep up to 4 extra micro SD cards in this manner).
I could take a external drive, but even using a msata or other USB external drive seems to flatten the battery a lot quicker. And it flattens even quicker when streaming or downloading over wifi or 3g/4g.
I have so much because I have been in and out of hospital, with stays of up to 2 months, quite a lot over the past 5 years. So I load them up with plenty of movies and TV shows (I have 1x PVR and 2x dual tuners on my PC, this allows me to transfer shows to the cards), so I have plenty to wile away the time - I just hate staring at the ceiling. I record everything from the news and currant affairs shows to documentaries, sitcoms, movies, various sports and various TV series, so it doesn't take long before they start filling up.
I also have a spare battery (both batteries have larger capacities than factory and lasts about 2 weeks on standby on one battery), plus a extra "power case" (extra battery rear casing into which the phone fits) which allows for a total of about a month on standby before I need to charge or replace a battery. So no power problems when in hospital or spending all day having tests.
Personally dislike any phones which do not allow me to add storage and change batteries, and I like just having one device which does everything - I could have a tablet or laptop, but just having one small thing that does everything is very handy.

The more you live, less you die. More you play, more you die. Isn't it great.
