Re: Intel finalising Ryzen spoiler Core i7 and i5 chip designs says report

I've seen a few of these articles from various sources today about intel panicking and releasing these processors to combat ryzen but these processors are actually part of the Skylake-X/Kaby Lake-X architectures destined for the enthusiast LGA 2066 socket (successor to LGA 2011-3) and not on the mainstream 1151 socket as a lot of the misinformation seems to be making out.

These are more just to launch the x299 platform and for paving the way for intel's new overpriced 10 core processor in august.

Going from what we have seen with the Pentium G4560 I do honestly think if Ryzen is decent enough we will be seeing a £240 Core i5 K series CPU with HT.

If we do then they will have to drop the prices on their whole lineup because a lot of places have the 7600k at £250+ already.

Well, I suppose they'll bring the platform entry costs for X299 down a bit - people *might* buy one of these to get the enhanced platform then upgrade to a faster/more cores chip later. Easier to stick smaller chips into a big platform than bigger chips into a small platform, after all...

Wonder if this is a precursor to i7s going 6 core, minimum. If the entire i5 line does get HT then they must have something planned, there.

rarely would i spend over $150 for a cpu. but this time ill set aside $500 for upgrades.
