Re: QOTW: How do you like your PC monitor: flat or curved?

Assuming no professional need for straight lines, I love my Predator X34 curved, there's just so much screen real estate for desktop, browsing/opening stuff side by side and it's ace for gaming obviously. I really notice the difference going back to smaller screens at work. Is it overkill? Probably. But it is great! I bought mine refurbished and saved several £100 (let's face it, over £1k for a monitor is ridiculous for the average user) but for a small scuff on the nameplate you'd never tell the difference. And it over clocks at 100hz nicely. No complaints...

    Flat.

If I was going for a 34" 3440x1440 model I might consider curved, but I think it'd be a waste of time on anything significantly smaller.

Dunno never used a curved screen. I've got a pair of very flat 16x10 screens as I like the extra depth & I wish I could get them deeper still. say 16x12.

Re: QOTW: How do you like your PC monitor: flat or curved?

I don't really care, I have 2 flat 25" screens at home, and a 34" Dell curved UW at work.

In day to day use, the curved screen is barely noticeable, and I doubt that I would personally experience any detriment if it was flat.

So given the choice, and knowing there is a premium for curved screens, I'd probably pick flat every time.

I have a 27" curved samsung screen, got it for an absolute steal and the colour reproduction was what I was after, the curve was a bonus. For one person working I like it, i also feel like the curve reduces eye strain. I wouldn't have a curved TV but really like the curved monitor.

4:3 was a very common ratio, surely there's something out there?

Re: QOTW: How do you like your PC monitor: flat or curved?

My three (flat) monitors are set up so that each one faces straight at me, so to replace them I would want a 4' wide (or more) curved monitor. Any taller than 16:9 though, and it would need to be spherical, not cylindrical, and I guess that is a few years away

Re: QOTW: How do you like your PC monitor: flat or curved?

I've used flat panels since the time they were released, and am an owner of both monitors and televisions of all sorts of sizes.

About a year ago I bought an Acer Predator x.34, and I'm loving it. The gentle curve on it as well as the 34" widescreen is perfect for my setup. When I game with this monitor, it feels more immersive.

With respect to flat panels, the forward optical axis of the pixels is such that it fires only some pixels towards our eyes, and the rest past our head. We do get the benefit of the angular emissions, but it's not the same. With a gentle curve added, the forward optical axis of the pixels is such that it aims better at our eyes.

Since I also compose music, the screen is wonderful for my DAW and all the instruments and effects I use.

I don't ever want to go back to flat panels for desktops. Our next TV will also be curved.

Re: QOTW: How do you like your PC monitor: flat or curved?

For films and gaming 34 inch curved, for work and study 27 inch flat. So for now it'll have to be flat, can't afford 2 monitors.

Re: QOTW: How do you like your PC monitor: flat or curved?

I would much rather see monitor manufacturers concentrate on making BIGGER 4k/8k(40inch and upwards)monitors for gaming, then wast money making small curved monitors...I'm waiting for the day when a 60 inch 8k gaming monitor comes around, maybe that would be big enough to be curved? I just think BIGGER is the way to go, or maybe VR will take off then we will be without any monitors at all?

There is no way that would happen, as I'm sure that there are plenty of people who are/would be unable to use VR. There's also those who don't need or want to use VR anyway, with the latter case obviously including it not being appropriate for most business usage.

As for my answer to the question, I would have to say flat as I don't really have any interest in a curved screen - it still seems more like a gimmick to me and I don't see that changing any time soon.
