Re: Microsoft Windows 10 Fall Creators Update arrives

Got offered the install so went for it. Went on OK, five minutes in it seems to have that snappy fresh install feel again. Let's see how long it lasts

Edit: Quite like the new Task Manager, some nice new details in the graphs. Core parking does look a lot more aggressive.

I have been reading a few more comments about FO4(also when running mods) - people have noticed it seems to do better now. I was also doing some research about the previous game mode in the Creator update and even on lowish end systems it seemed to boost FPS a bit with the game(there is a video from a well known channel showing this, but not with other games they tested it with).

OTH,not everyone does see a boost with certain setups and certain games though. Will need to do some direct testing at some point.

    Some more testing,this time with a Ryzen 5 1600 and a Vega64:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWDjKo0pCLc

Fresh 17.10.1 install on the left (pre-wcu), fresh 17.40 install in the middle (pre-wcu) and fresh updated windows with 17.40 on the right.
Looking at the games tested, some seem around the same and others do show improvements in FPS.

Re: Microsoft Windows 10 Fall Creators Update arrives

I just did a quick 3dmark timespy bench before/after. Close enough to make no odds really, though absolute figure better for the pre update.

    Pre update:
    Total: 4079
    GPU: 4299
    CPU: 3166

    Post update:
    Total: 4057
    GPU: 4304
    CPU: 3065

Re: Microsoft Windows 10 Fall Creators Update arrives

Did the update, went fine but no noticeable difference yet - not that I've been looking for one.

Actually that's a lie, the "Windows Spotlight" log in screen now works, previously it was just stuck on the same default picture, now it changes.

Giant no-nos. Glad I'm still not bothering with Win10

As for whether this fix would come to Windows 8.1, Natalie told Neowin that it’s unlikely, and the best recourse for gamers affected by the issue would be to simply upgrade to Windows 10 Version 1709 – the Fall Creators Update
This is basically "oh so you want a fix for the OS version that works fine for you? *sticks up middle finger*"

Re: Microsoft Windows 10 Fall Creators Update arrives

I have noticed after leaving the computer on overnight, when I try and wake up the monitor again the whole system is quite unresponsive and unusable now. This didn't happen pre update. I have to press the power update and wait a few minutes for it to slowly shut down, then power it back up again, at which point it's fine. I have B350, R7 1700 and Vega 56 on Windows 10 64. Anyone else notice this? Happened 3-4 times.

What does the event viewer have to say about it?

Event viewer isn't showing anything unusual. I might try a fresh install on a spare HDD but it's a lot of hastle, will probably live with it for now.

Ran another one and it's jumped up again, mainly thanks to the 2d gfx score. Pre-update I was getting ~3900 (total), now I've just got 4162. Must be more than 5% improvement, without checking, as it's allowed me to upload the baseline (https://www.passmark.com/baselines/V...id=91224734085).
