sighs, apple users are like when you get a knock at the door from a religion, you know they atalk crud / they know it and yet they still go on ?

Errr I built my own Hackintosh, runs pretty sweet and until this new thing came out was easily faster than a genuine mac pro. Did everything I wanted it to and then I realised I had no real use case for a mac so went back to my PC.

Hackintoshes are good for understanding OSX under the hood and for wasting time. Beyond that, it's like putting pram wheels on a Ferrari.

Not quite sure I understand that, Hackintoshes are great if you need a Mac but cant afford one. I built mine cos I needed one for awhile but didn't have the money for a Mac & didn't like any of the form factors on offer. Therefore Hackintosh was the obvious way to go.

But the market for this machine is for people who want to get the day job done. They just want to buy a machine that works out of the box and is supported by the manufacturer.

Exactly so. I built a Hackingtosh for similar reasons to Jimborae, and it worked pretty well, apart from imessage, which worked for a while (but I logged out and the authentication settings changed and I couldn’t log back in).

But having tried it for a year, I then bought a ‘proper’ Mac and stayed with it. It was about the time of the windows 8/8.1 debacle and while I was (and for a couple of legacy apps still am) happy with win7, there was no way I was going for 8, and having looked at win10, it offers nothing that I can’t do as wee, if not better, on my Mac, with its underlying Unix operating system.

Well, you get to learn how to modify plists, drivers, bootloaders etc. So, technically it can be rewarding. But why anyone would want to go through that for limited app support in a daily driver is beyond me.

Never came across any kind of limited app support in the time I used my Hackintosh. Everything just worked like it would in a normal Mac.

For an AIO machine the iMac Pro is ridiculously powerful - remember,it has upto 18 cores and upto a Radeon PRO Vega 64 with upto 128GB of system RAM and 4TB of solid state storage.

Be interesting to see how hot & noisy it gets with everything running full tilt on a top spec machine. I remember some older iMacs used to get very toasty & I've repaired a few in my time with burnt out psu's probably caused by overheating.

Reeks of style over substance, which is anathema to me. Although, I wouldn't spend that much on a PC build either.
