The way these player transfers are going. Sport subs are only going to go up and up...
So the only real difference between this and the normal "Roku" based NOW TV box is the voice remote and the ability to pause live TV?
The only problem I've ever really found with the NOW TV box was being tied into purely SKY services and a limited freeview offering, without the ability to install additional applications, even though it uses Roku hardware. For what you gain in the ability to pause and "voice remote", I'd rather stick with Roku hardware and just install the applications I want to use. NOW TV was too restrictive in the way they tried to keep you within their own services, with the Roku hardware I now have I also get to use NETFLIX and Amazon services among many other benefits.
Either way, it's still a much cheaper way of having access to SKY / SKY Atlantic / SKY Cinema and the more limited offering of boxsets or films on demand, than having a specific SKY subscription. YMMV.
Dunno, but it's not on Virgin, which is my current supplier, resilting in me missing out on, for example, the last couple of seasons of Game of Thrones. The absence of Atlantic was about the only negative in switching from Xky to Virgin (for me, of course, others may gave different priorities) but not even close to enough to stop me switching.
If I could get Atlantic buy getting a Now box and "catching up", I might be interested. If I need a Sky box to get Atlantic, OR I can't get what I want on it (like GoT) then I'll just do what I've done before which is, when I get around to it, is buy the last season or two on DVD.
Virgin sent me a V6 box about 4 or 6 months ago, and it's still sitting in the delivery packaging. For all the benefits you mentioned, they omitted to tell me it doesn't have a working Scart output, and I NEED that. It is not optional for me. Sure, most people won't care, byt for me, it outweighs all the other V6 advantages .... though to be fair, I don't csre about HD, never mind 4K.
Which suggests, as per rules of supply and demand, that the answer lies collectively with consumers.
Don't pay it. Cancel the Sports sub.
Anyone that doesn't proves the point - however much they moan about the cost, if they pay it, it's worth the cost to them.
Signed ... smug non-sports fan.
According to the website, Atlantic is included in the Entertainment pass, which is £7.99 a month (and you get a free 14 day trial too, apparently) - http://www.nowtv.com/watch-tv-shows-online. Currys are currently selling 5 months of entertainment for £25, which is a reasonable saving - https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and...78578-pdt.html
You don't need a Now TV box - there's plenty of devices that have Now TV apps, and you can stream from Windows/Mac too. A Now box looks like the easiest "plug-and-ignore" option, though, and they're essentially free if you get one with a bundled pass.

This is how I've watched the last 2 series of GoT. 2 years ago, bought a NowTV box from Argos for £15 with 4 months of Entertainment, which includes Sky Atlantic, last year, thought about just buying another box, but I got a code which gave me NowTV for £3.49 a month. 2 months for £7, was long enough to watch GoT, then ditch it after.
I'll have to investigate further, then. I need to make sure I can get what I want, currently, GoT.
As for boxes, I hate, loathe, detest and despise watching TV progs on small screens, like laptops, computers, etc. I want my butt firmly planted in my armchair and (by my standards) a nice, big (40"-ish) screen to watch on. I'd go bigger, but it won't fit without rearranging wall-hanging cupboards, which is too much like hard work, especially as I know I'd end up redecorating the entire lounge. Probably inc carpet. And a new suite.
So really, a box is needed.
I also need to compare to the DVD price, especially as I'll wstch it agsin in years to come. Just finished The Wire, end to end, and an halfway through Babylon 5.
Nope and inferior picture quality to boot as well. My stuff is hdmi>av-amp>hdmi splitter>tv&projector
Everything is HD, sound is sent via 1 cable as well. Enough cables without scarts all over the place and optical or rca sound cables
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
Because you don't need what I need.
It's not that Scart is important to me. It's that, on my primary TV source, it is critical, essential. Everything you say sbout cables, quality, etc, is all true. Also, about the death of Scart, including on TV's.
Nonetheless, for me, Scart is must have.
On a secondary source, like Now box would be, non-essential. But for my Virgin box, critical.
