Re: QOTW: Which motherboard are you using?

    Gigabyte GA-870A-USB3

its my sisters old one. my Biostar AM2+ thingy one had a problem detecting the RAM so had to swap. sister had recently upgraded to a ryzen system so at least it saved me some money.

Im happy she didn't dump it and it was in her drawer of old puter bits.
the sata ports are in a better place too, and not obscured by the GPU so I can plug all six sata in. so that's a bonus.
cant remember how much it was, sister got it 9 years ago.

Re: QOTW: Which motherboard are you using?

Biostar TA970 (the 5.0 version I believe, not the newer ones) - as originally recommended to me by Bagnaj97 on this thread, and I decided that the cheapest (if I recall correctly) option sounded perfectly good for my usage.

In hindsight, I do wish I'd chosen a more expensive motherboard just in case I wanted to overclock. Another part of the reason being that it refused to apply XMP profiles, thus meaning any timings had to be set manually (and sitll differed slightly from the timings the XMP profile said the RAM was supposed to support), which I would assume overclocking flexibility may have allowed to work as expected.

In more recent times, it also doesn't seem to be a fan of an eSATA card I bought. I can't help but wonder if parts are slowly failing or it just doesn't like certain things (and whether those certain things the motherboard may have liked if I had bought a more expensive one).

As I've said in other QOTWs recently however, it's only a matter of time until I move to Zen 2, so it's bearable to stick with it as overall I've been happy enough with it to wait for something to catch my eye.

Re: QOTW: Which motherboard are you using?

Gigabyte K7 Gaming AX370, with a 1700X. I won't be getting another Gigabyte board any time soon, though. The BIOS experience is meh, overclocking was a pain (and ultimately decided to just give up on it) despite being specifically geared towards it. Also... every time I go to Microcenter, the majority of the motherboards on the returns shelf are Gigabyte, and I just had to exchange an Aorus B450 Pro WIFI board that was DOA.

Re: QOTW: Which motherboard are you using?

ASUS ROG Maximus Hero IX, I picked it for a few reasons - Good for overclocking with some great bios features for that, 2 x M.2 slots, re-enforced pci-e slots, great on-board sound chip, RGB headers, plenty of IO connections... it's really a great board for my gaming rig so no complaints at all, worth the premium for a solid, well featured board in my eyes.

ASUS P8C WS (https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P8C_WS/). At the time it was more or less my only choice for a Xeon E3 processor.

    What: Asus X99 USB 3.1

Why: One of my friends upgraded and this came my way.

Happy: I have a pretty good-looking motherboard, some DDR4 and a nice i7-5960X, none of which I could ever afford to buy... so yeah, I'm rather chuffed.

Re: QOTW: Which motherboard are you using?

I have the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro and it is a very good board. I did lot's of research to decide on a "bang for buck" Z390 board and the Aorus Pro was one of the best ones for what I was willing to pay. The normal price was over what I wanted to pay but Aria had a great offer on at the time and I only paid £160 for it plus it included £30 worth of Costa Coffee vouchers. However, it does have one big downside and that is the awful bios. I have been on Asus boards for the past several years and they have argueably the best bios layout going but with massive price increases and declining quality of boards unless you pay silly amounts I jumped ship. Gigabytes bios is so bad that I just can't bring myself to go back into it to do further tweaking of the memory and see if my 9600k will go any higher with the latest bios versions. Aside from the bios I am very happy with the board. It's a quality board and is rock solid stable with no problems at all but this will be my last Gigabyte board unless they massively improve the bios.

MSI Z270 Gaming M7, has three M.2 slots, a decent layout, plenty of fan connections, easy to use BIOS and good overclocking potential. I'm a big fan.
