Re: QOTW: How many individual components are in your PC?

I have just gotten 2 RAM blocks too many, as when i insert those my RAM will no longer run its nominated 3600 MHZ, but revert back to 2134 MHZ.
And the only way i can change that is to only run with 2 or 4 of the modules, in which case if the 2 new blocks are in there they will run 3600 MHZ just fine.

Only excess component i assume i have are the RGB controller for my Corsair fans, which in the grans perspective are not needed for proper operation.
Maybe a little sheet metal as my Lian li case are modified a little on the inside to my liking.

Re: QOTW: How many individual components are in your PC?

Building is much easier now compared to years back , all parts to hand you can build a basic PC in 15 minutes , takes longer to load Windows , load drivers and set up. Way back you had to position jumpers on the motherboard to set voltages for different chips and memory , add extra cards for soumd ,video. modem etc. Was more of an art then but then again gave me a better grounding in PC's and I used to enjoy the build more. The only thing I have to really think about in a build now and tax my one remaining grey cell is cable management. One point in a build that has slowed things up these past years is cooling , used to be just clip on but now it's a bolt down jobbie , ah well , progress. Oh , and case fans , used to just have one at the back to extract warm air now I have 2 on my cooler , 5 case fans, controller and a spider web of extra cables to manage. Not sure if this is a PC or a hovercraft but it looks pretty. lol.

Re: QOTW: How many individual components are in your PC?

    Case
    Motherboard (B350)
    CPU (ryzen 1700)
Metal Cooler with 2 fans (one has fallen off) (nh-d15)
2*DDR4 3200 8 (I bought some similar B die memory but it doesn't like 4*3200 so I will revisit that later. In fact I have a lot of spare DDR4 lying around...).
1000w PSU (I didn't swap it out in the end, it's been stable, have a spare PSU now though sitting in a box taking up Space).
Vega 56 GPU (it's nice and stable again, very nice of Scan to check it over for me free) even though I hardly game. It's the old enthusiast in me spending my dosh.
    512GB Evo 850 SSD
3 2TB Hard Drives (yes I still run my spinning rust, I don't access them much these days though - everything is over the internet and streams down to you)

This all fits in a Define S with the side panel off (so it's quiet). It was quiet with the side panel on but I'm planning upgrades (I've had a 1TB NVME just sitting here for months, might be a year now, it's a 961 too) so I just let it sit here next to my desk. On an upturned plastic storage box to raise it off the floor for ease of access and so as not to have it on the carpet tiles (my flat is housing association supported housing [it's a rental.])

Honestly I just see it as a display driver and it drives my high end audio stuff damn well. +information from the internet

I was planning a living room build and even bought and have all the parts (+ a spare ryzen mobo) but I don't use that room so.... yep.

Re: QOTW: How many individual components are in your PC?

    14...

    Case
    PSU
    Motherboard
    CPU
    Heatsink/fan
    2x8GB DRAM kit
    GPU
    M.2 NVMe SSD
    2x4TB HDDs
    120mm HF fan
    2x140mm HP fan

More or less the same as my last build component count wise. The major difference this time is I need less power and data cabling, and cable routing was way easier. If I could get 2 2TB NVMe SSDs to replace the spinning rust I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I'm not feeling remotely flush enough for that, and a new GPU is a higher priority as well, which are also obscenely overpriced.

Re: QOTW: How many individual components are in your PC?

In, as inside of it, there's actually a lot:
    1 M.2 SSD
    1 SATA SSD
    4 Hard Drives
    4 Fans including CPU Fan
    1 GPU
    1 LED Strip
    Besides the usual suspects
2 sticks of RAM, CPU, Mobo and PSU

For a total of 17 components.

Now if you account External Components I also have
    1 DAC
    1 Audio Interface
    1 Bluetooth adaptor
Besides the usual keyboard, mouse and monitor for a total of 6 external components

    Everything included there's 23 components

I see a lot of people still rocking one or more optical drives, that surprised me.

Re: QOTW: How many individual components are in your PC?

My personal home builds have always been gaming focused so they have never really been that complex, just a better GPU than an office PC.. although with all the RGB and AIO cooler faff I have these days, my current build probably is the most complex if you count the light strips, fans, radiator + pump etc. I have dropped using any form of optical drive though, so there's that.

Re: QOTW: How many individual components are in your PC?

    Case
    6x120MM fans (3xVardars, 3xRIINGs)
    RIING fan RGB controller
    360MM Rad
    D5 pump/Res combo
    Fan mount bracket for Pump/res
    CPU
    CPU Block
    GPU
    GPU Block
lots of fittings (12xcompression fittings, 3x90* bends, 8x45* bends, 2xmale-male adapter, 1x3way adapter, 2xvalves, 1xG1/4 funnel, 1x bulkhead fill port, 8xplugs - this number varies as I play with it and try different tubing runs.)
a bunch of toobs (about 20" worth)
    MOBO
    PSU
    GPU riser
    PCIE extender cable
24 Pin power cable RGB strimer
    Control card for Strimer
    2x RAM modules
    2.5" SATA SSD
    M.2 NVME SSD

    so...

26 (or 63 counting tube as 1, and fittings separately.)

Plus a hardware store full of screws, I guess...

    EDIT:

externally, in addition to KB, speakers, mouse, mic, and monitor, I've also got a fingerprint reader.
