It is indeed, but on my own dime i have never been able to do that ( due to bad financial disposals ) so i have only seen the world work related.
I have not been to : Antarctic & Africa when we talk continents.

Now i am retired, so not money for that unless i save for years.

Probably not, nothing happening work-wise for me that would require air travel until mid-Jan next year..

Indeed, but having flown long-haul dozens of times over the years, I've yet to pick up anything I would attribute to travel. But sure, it's always a risk.

My issue is quantifying the scale of the risk. Over those years, the most likely thing I would be exposed to would be a cold.

But at the moment, the risk of something potentially far nastier, and even potentially fatal, is significant. There's a difference between risking sneezes and sniffles for a few days, and risking ending up on a ventilator in an IC unit. Or, sadly, worse.

I can't think of anything close to a good enough reason to travel that I would risk that.

That said, as others have said, I haven't flown in years. I did, however, have potential plans to cross a few places of my bucket list. But not under current circumstances.

Was going to go this month but because we're so excellent at containing the virus we're on the red list for going most places so would've had to quarantine for 2 weeks where we were going, although actually we could have bought a COVID test but simply couldn't be arsed.

Re: QOTW: Do you plan to fly again this year?

I flew three round trips and a one-way last year, the most I've flown in several years. But it looks unlikely that I will fly this year.

Back around January I was talking with a friend of making a trip to southern France in the spring, but you can guess what happened to that plan.

I may yet wind up visiting some friends in other cities in the fall, instead of my usual spring. But even if I do, I'll probably do it by road trip instead of by plane. I'll have adequate time off to drive, it'll be nice to see the fall colors while driving, and even though I've pretty much lost any fear of catching covid-19, it doesn't seem like it would be worth putting up with the hassle and elevated risk of flying at this time, on top of all the security theater there normally is.

That is basically the problem too in some places - some are requiring a test a few days before you leave, then testing when you land. Then you are also only expected to only stay at designated hotels,so if you want to stay with friends its not possible. Also you need to have sufficient medical cover too,in case you get sick, and I suspect only relatively expensive premiums would cover COVID.

Also another issue,is the UK safe destination list, seems to have nothing to do with how actually safe a destination is,so some countries have probably responded in kind, and kept strict restrictions to UK based passengers in place.

"... or is flying simply off the table this year?" I expect flying to be off a runway and I will be flying from Bournemouth to Malaga, for a holiday in the sun, in about ten weeks' time.

I’d normally be off on my travels from this week for the next 4-5 weeks, no plans this year I’m afraid, might think about it next year around Feb/March time.

Re: QOTW: Do you plan to fly again this year?

We were supposed to go away beginning of May but as news was unfolding we moved our holiday to last week in May just in case. Then we get second week into May and things were getting worse so we moved to next year. We noticed though that the same holiday was £400 more for 2 weeks same dates and hotel in Turkey (was £1600 and went up to £2054) so we cancelled with Jet 2 (technically only lost £60 as our deposit included a £60 rain cheque) and booked with TUI instead. We got 3 weeks for £2400 at their Magic Life 5 Star resort in Sharm El Sheikh so we will be away for my wife's 40th birthday and our 15th wedding anniversary which will be cool.

We have no intention to go anywhere this year now given the current situation. We have briefly talked about a cheap self catering somewhere if things calm right down just to get a break but cannot see that happening.

Re: QOTW: Do you plan to fly again this year?

I live in Ireland and the virus has been managed quite well by our government. However we are not supposed to travel abroad unless a country is on a fairly short green list. This is not an option for me as we are lucky enough to have a place in France which needs regular checking on. This is my second trip here this summer and it has been a joy to travel, empty airports and half full planes and no ATC restrictions because of traffic congestion. When in France we go to the local shop with our masks on and that's it, no eating out or using public transport so it feels pretty safe.

Once the vaccine is released... maybe. Not really a fan of flying because of the small space you are forced into. The only exercise is walking to the bathroom.
