Exactly which of the 30xx series are 'safe' to upgrade to, given the wattages so far have been 350W, 320W and 220W?
Interestingly enough the RX480/RX580/RX590 and RX470/RX570 marketshare total comes to just under 5% which is higher than I expected, especially as Polaris didn't do that well in laptops. The GTX1060 total is high because it includes the GTX1060 3GB/6GB and mobile versions which all have the same name.

Currently running with a Ryzen 3600 and the Radeon 5700. Was hoping the red team would have something special to take nvidia down a peg like the Ryzen chips did Intel.
Not an AMD Fanboy just someone that sees the value of viable competition over token.
AMD Zen3 annoucement is 8th October and RX6000 series is 28th October:

Literally at no point did I actively defend nvidia. I couldn't give less of a toss about them as a company. Their entire worth to me is the products they make and the value I find in them.
That being said, the 3000 series is looking to be a once in a..god, not even generation, like..several generations..leap. There hasn't been this sort of improvement from generation to generation in 15 years!
But I've previously been extremely vocal in my downright hatred for nvidia and the crap they pulled with the 2000 series; making us pay for R&D and technology leaps not ready and not usable, bringing out a graphics card that has a 30% performance increase at a 50% price increase, vs the normal cadence of 20-30% performance for either the same price or 50 quid more. But then they come back with a literal doubling of performance, for prices that are LESS than the top end of the PREVIOUS generation ?! How can you not be excited for that?!
They are ruining their previous gen card by releasing a new one that does the same performance for half the cost. They're releasing a card that straight up doubles the performance of the previous-previous (1080Ti) gen card, for most likely less (650 quid vs the 720 quid I paid for my 1080Ti). I'm sorry but this is exciting times.
Who cares about shifting brackets, shifting names, whatever. All that matters is performance per dollar.
But on that note, I am absolutely convinced that the only reason nvidia are bestowing us such lovelies is that they're afraid of what others are coming out with. So as lovely as the 3000 series is..I'ma wait on AMD.

They'll do it using the same methods by which I know you have a Seasonic 600W PSU, then...

In general I assume that it's not worth upgrading more often than every third generation unless something truly revolutionary comes along. The only revolution I've seen in recent years has been nVidia's pricing :-(
I'm going to wait until I've seen 3rd party benchmarks for both the 30-series and whatever AMD comes out with before I consider upgrading. TBH I'd question the wisdom of anyone who buys one of these cards in a hurry.
Or I might hold off another year and put the last of this year's money towards a 1440p monitor instead.
Something seems real off there, as I had a 1060 before moving to 4K, and it made mincemeat of 1080p. 980Ti is a 1440p, >60hz capable card.
Sounds like maybe I was unclear about something.
Re: Steam survey reveals why Nvidia wants GTX 10 owners to upgrade
Not looking to replace my current Ryzen 3600 anytime soon as it more than meets my needs.
The 5700 struggles with VR titles more than I like and I have been waiting for the new cards from AMD and Nvidia for months. (It feels much longer - I blame COVID, or the government... actually both)
The 3070 seems like a good fit and is available for pre-order in October but I am happy (willing may be a better term) to wait until after the 28th to see what AMD has to offer.
Hopefully the actual cards will be available not too long afterwards. ( I hate paper launches )
Ideally I want the new card before the end of November, before the wife starts spending for Xmas!

I think you're right they're worried about the competition, but I don't think it's primarily AMD (directly anyway,) they're trying to head off. It's Sony and Microsoft. Their new consoles are price competitive with a high end GPU (never mind the rest of the system around it,) so they need something that offers greater performance, for a similar price (hence the effective price drops over 2000 series,) and on the market before the consoles are.

I doubt he does... But I bet you there are people (direct employees or an external data harvesting service) employed to read them, and compile all the data from around the web on what people say they have, compared with all available sales figures, who then tell Jen Sen what the most common PSUs are.

And there you go, for many upgraders, it's going to be GPU + probably at the very least one other piece of not so cheap hardware. You must have the CPU and PSU to cope but many others with 1060s, 1050s, 4 cores, and etc, won't

Nah, just not enough info or users in forums for that to be meaningful. Better to strike up partnership with a retailer and just pay them for distribution figures. Or pay a survey firm to conduct research via sampling questionnaires.
Maybe Hexus can ask Scan for the same, so we can get a guestimate of what the median PSU was like back when the 1060/1050ti/1050 cards were selling.

I knew this year was going to be a good one on many levels, hence still running my old card but upgrading a lot of the other stuff in my machine to bring me up to AM4 and having B450 and X570 motherboards I can use depending on where CPU/APU's end up and which route I end up going down..
