Re: QOTW: Are you upgrading to a GeForce RTX 3080?

I tried for a couple of hours to buy a 3080 at launch (the Asus TUF one @ £650). As a 1080ti and 4K monitor owner, I'd rather have something with slightly more VRAM. I had intended on testing it and probably selling it on ebay when the 20GB variants are released or if Big Navi turns out to be an Nvidia killer.

Re: QOTW: Are you upgrading to a GeForce RTX 3080?

Well my desire to have is there but highly unlikely
    1) it about 15mm too long for my Case
    2) The power Increase has put me off
    3) The Technical Blurb egging up the improvements looks overly bizarre given the power increase it not looking on a per watt basis as good as the improvements give impression for.
    4) Initial Cost to start off.

No doubt its a good card given the gaming stats bit equally niggles me a bit. I'm interested what AMD brings to the table next month.

I'll be buying one when there are some available. I tried to get a founders edition at launch, no luck. Refreshed the website constantly from a few minutes before launch, it remained on "notify me" until 4 minutes past, then went directly to "out of stock", I never even saw a button to try to order

I've pre-ordered one, but I'll be interested to see what AMD can actually respond with - would happily cancel my pre-order after the paper launch fiasco to be honest.

Already have a 2080, so happy to see the improved uptake of ray tracing that my current card can take advantage of.

Re: QOTW: Are you upgrading to a GeForce RTX 3080?

Nope, I have a 1080ti that doesn't struggle & have no interest in paying $700 for RTX. I might consider replacing when the 4000 cards are released but even that's not guaranteed.

Re: QOTW: Are you upgrading to a GeForce RTX 3080?

No. It will be almost $900 after tax. Way too expensive. I am keeping an eye on the 3070 though. I am also waiting for AMD's specs and price on the RX 6000 series.

I will wait for the Ti/Super larger VRAM variant and even then it will be after I upgrade the rest of my system first.

Re: QOTW: Are you upgrading to a GeForce RTX 3080?

Yes, and probably a new PSU, new X570 mobo, and while I'm at it a XBox Series X and a PS5... And of course I'll be selling to GTX1080ti, the XBox One X and probably the PS4...

I'll wait for the bugs to be ironed out first. Maybe I'll upgrade in 2021.

Re: QOTW: Are you upgrading to a GeForce RTX 3080?

Nop. I'm have to far more budget minded and having updated to a GTX1660 recently, my next expenditure will be doubling my processor cores and all that entails.

Re: QOTW: Are you upgrading to a GeForce RTX 3080?

I was initally looking at the 3070, but the new 1440p 165hz monitors might convince me to find the extra couple hundred between the sofa cushions (that's even if I could buy one!)

I'll probably wait for the RDNA2 announcement though, hoping AMD has an ace up their sleeve, but maybe it's wishful thinking...

Re: QOTW: Are you upgrading to a GeForce RTX 3080?

I think most that get this new card, and as fast as they possible can.
Well it is probably just for bragging rights, or maybe being able to turn their favorite game up from high to extreme GFX settings, and i guess thats okay too at least if you dont claim to be a overly responsible person.

By that i mean if you just upgrade to upgrade, well then you are not doing the environment any favors for sure, but it is of course your money, just saying what i would feel.

On the other hand if you upgraded to a 4K screen, and you have found it a bit lackluster as your current GFX have problems running that, then fine you have a justifiable need.
I am not getting one for reasons i have mentioned so i would rather put my money towards other things.
I need a fan controller for my case project, and i also need to buy the building materials for that so i can get on with it.

I also think the smart guy would wait a bit and see what the other guys have to offer too, at least if you are a person that have not burned any bridges behind you ( hater / fanboy )
That only make sense to me,,,,,,, though hate / intense dislike are a feeling i am very quick to adopt.

I am also contemplating getting a big ass 4K OLED TV to use for a computer screen, but this i will have to think about at least for the rest of the year as that would be a substantial bite out of savings i have not made yet.
