Re: AMD shares more detailed Radeon RX 6000 benchmarks

am happy that I am waiting to see what happens, am also happy that I don't buy the next release right away, still got my 1080ti, it would be a quantum leap for me to upgrade 2x generations when getting the next PC that I want to build, and definately want to try all out AMD

I'm definitely excited to see third party benchmarks for the 6800. Based on AMD benchmarks and accounting for a bit of cherry-picking of results, the 6800 can be expected to come in on par or possibly slightly ahead of the 3070 in terms of perf/watt and slightly ahead in perf/£. It is disappointing that this generation of cards can only deliver around a 15% performance hike on the 2080Ti at 250W. Perhaps the 2000 series was better than most (me included) gave it credit for, or perhaps it just goes to reaffirm how amazing the 1080Ti really was. Maybe we have been spoilt with higher generational gains than this too often in the past.

The fact that the higher tier cards are 300W+ rules them out completely for me and makes the 6800 the de facto highest tier card (that I'm willing to consider) and I would expect it to crush the 3070 especially at 4K. That for me would be good enough to part with my money unless Nvidia come back with a 16gb version with better 4K performance sometime soon.

That makes sense given the impact it has on some of those titles, but does skew the results.

They are clearly choosing specific setting combinations & games to show off the 6800XT Vs 3080 (as you would), and since all benchmarks have "SAM" enabled & are only on a ryzen system, I still think they are basically worthless and can't be used to compare..its apples vs oranges atm.

No surprise mind, but we have to think of these numbers are part of a marketing/sales pitch, rather than a true representation of exactly what we'll see in the real world. I don't believe they add any value to the consumer over and above the slides we saw last week. Nvidia are no better here I must add, they are both at it.
Is this really much different to releasing overclocked cards, or having a card running at different boost speeds dictated by the bios etc? I'm not so sure it is, but at least AMD are being transparent about that part.

What I would find interesting is reviews that explicitly disable that feature so consumers get a fairer indication of the level of the cards on an Intel system or pre-5xxx AMD CPU. Hopefully Hexus will cover the bases on this when they review the cards.

I am in just the same situation. I think I kept my i7 long enough and it's time to go AMD yet again. Still I will let Cyberpunk to have final word with it

Have they given a date for revealing more info on the new features and technical details?

Flight Sim is more CPU than GPU limited, even with something like a 3090. Depending on what you are upgrading from, you may not see much benefit. Note that it's multi core scaling is pretty poor as well (I think its still limited to 4 cores max, unless that has been "fixed" yet) so you don't even see a boost from taking the Ryzen route here, which is what you'd normally expect in a CPU limited scenario like this!
That was fixed but still not as good as other things for multi-core scaling. It's pretty much a beta and the buyers are the testers
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
